Buying A Neo Laptop?

HP/Compaq, Neo Laptops — Ely on September 25, 2007 at 7:31 pm

Neo is a computer brand available in the Philippines. Neo has some nice competitively priced laptops. Just take a look at their Empriva 572SVBx hardware specs:

  • Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Processor T2130 (1MB L2 Cache, 1.86GHz, 533MHz FSB)
  • Windows Vista® Home Basic
  • 60-day MS Office 2007 trial
  • SiS M671MX + SiS 968
  • 802.11 b/g
  • 1GB DDR2 Memory
  • 80GB SATA Hard Disk Drive
  • NEO VisionCare 12.1″ Widescreen WXGA TFT LCD
  • SiS Mirage 3 (M671MX integration)
  • CD/DVD Burner (Supermulti 8x DVD+/-RW)
  • NEO Motion Eye 300K Pixel, Built-in Mic & Speaker
  • 10/100 Mbps LAN
  • Integrated 56k Modem
  • 3x USB 2.0
  • 7-in-1 Card Reader
  • 4-cell Lithium Ion Battery
  • 1.8kg with Battery
  • 1 year warranty

This little laptop is competitively priced at P41,000.00. In comparison, my Compaq Presario B1957TU (which has the following specs) is already priced at P59,940.00.

  • Intel Core Duo Processor T2250 (2MB L2 Cache, 1.73 GHz, 533MHz FSB)
  • ATI Radeon Xpress 200M Chipset
  • 12.1-inch BrightView Widescreen LCD
  • 512MB DDR2 SODIMM Memory120GB Hard Disk Drive
  • SuperMulti Double Layer DVD±RW Drive
  • Hi-speed 56K modem, Integrated 10/100 LAN,
  • 802.11a/b/g WLAN with Bluetooth
  • Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
  • Integrated 4-in-1 digital memory reader slot
  • 3xUSB 2.0,S-video out, Firewire
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic
  • Weight: 1.79 Kgs.

What’s the difference? The NEO has more RAM, a webcam, microphone and doesn’t have bluetooth. The Presario has more HD space, bluetooth and a better processor. Is the Compaq Presario price justified? Should it really be more valuable than the Empriva? What aren’t we seeing here?

I think the difference is the quality of after sales support. Take a look at Jozzua’s website and you will see the amount of talk going around about Neo’s tech support. Take a look at some of the comments:

I was recently given a Neo Empriva as part of our equipment purchase from one of our company’s suppliers. I’ve had the unit for about two months and have been actually using it only occasionally. About five weeks ago, its DVD +/-R drive malfunctioned and since it was still covered by warranty, I returned it to our supplier as they were the ones who bought the unit. Our supplier was kind enough to accept the laptop and infomed us that they would likewise return it to their supplier. Now it’s been about three weeks and our supplier still hasn’t got any news about the status of my Empriva except that it’s at the factory (?). - GreenRabbit

I just bought a Neo 360SXEi laptop from PC Corner last June 19, 2007 for a friend who is a paramedic in Laos. I bought it a day prior to my departure, so I haven’t got time to actually road test it. Anyway 1 week after I bought it, the laptop developed a habit of freezing after a few minutes of use. I’ve reformated it 4 times already and each time it seemed to have solved the problem , but afater a few hours it hang again. Since I bought it I’ve calledt Neo IT Support 3 times already for all sorts of problems (imagined the long distance calls I have spent). Until now it kept freezing and I already called Neo Support again and I was advised to bring the unit to their service center. It’s really embarrasing considering I even told my friend the NEO is the choice brand for PLDT on their DSL package so most probably it’s of good quality. -Dr. Ramon Guadalupe.

A poster named Nicole details her experiences with Neo Laptop Tech support:

1. I gave the NEO sales rep my business card at Megamall and he promised to update me regarding the availability of the laptop that I’m looking for - NEO 601 RVP. Instead of him doing the follow ups, I’m the one calling him every now and then to get feedback.
2. This NEO sales rep sends me text quotes on the cellphone, instead of updates about my laptop. Very professional, indeed.
3. This NEO sales rep tells me that he will update me the following day, but I waited for a week - and again, I had to call him up to get an update regarding the availability of the unit, to which he replied, “A-hehehe… Sorry po ma’m. Hindi pa talaga e. Wala pa kasi boss namin.” Look, if you say that you’re going to update the following day, then you damn well should. If you can’t do it yourself, then turn it over to someone who can. DO NOT IGNORE YOUR CUSTOMERS.
4. When I got fed up with this sales rep’s customer service (he even got my Yahoo ID, so that he could easily give me an update - which I found useless, because he doesn’t anyway), I called up NEO’s custcare support, only to get this, “Ay, tawag nalang kayo mamaya. Kumakain pa sila.”

So there you have it. NEO reps, if you are reading this, why should I even bother purchasing your laptop with this kind of service? As YOUR customer, I find it insulting that I should have to run after your reps, who PROMISE to update, for a simple information.

Bits, a representative from Neo computers, have actively responded to the various customer queries.

…for those who have posted problems here who have not been personally contacted for resolution, please contact us a 724-3636 or email us at care@neo.com.ph. Please rest assured that we are monitoring this site as it allows us to find ways to improve our service and work with customers with unresolved issues.

How does Tech Support for HP/Compaq Presario fare? Looking at Angelo’s blog, you can see his personal experiences with a Presario laptop. He seemed to be quite happy.

… a year and a week after buying my Compaq Presario V2617TS, I got myself a mostly-new V2617 with several upgrades (I actually purchased a DVD-RW drive before, for backing up files and photos). It’s better than good as new .

Well it seems you can buy a very cheap and lightweight laptop and NEO, but will it last?

The digital cameras should ideally be ones that does not require digital camera accessories. A common example is that of security cameras.

  4. Hi all,

I just bought a Empriva 572SVBx laptop out of due necessity (my HP laptop got damaged and I needed one quick replacement fast) and it has been so far working ok for me (been running it on more than 12 hours at a time on AC power for more than a week now).

As far as I’ve researched, it’s a close enough clone of the Sager NP7250 notebooks (they have practically the same casing, similar specs, even buttons on the keyboard and same chipsets based on SiS 671MX), and from what I’ve seen, it has a good sturdy build. Like the NP7250, it’s main complaint is the 4-cell battery which doesn’t last really long (longest I’ve seen running it is about an hour and 20 minutes silent mode with the Power Saver plan scheme of vista), and has the same observation of running a bit hot at the left side of the laptop.

Also, what I found odd is that most computer shops selling these neo laptops do NOT sell extra batteries in case you need one (which you’ll definitely need because of low battery life) - they’ll almost always refer you to the neo showroom in sm megamall - which is quite unfortunate because computer shops who sell laptops should also have laptop batteries on their inventories just in case when a customer should buy an extra one. It was just frustrating to go from alabang, to gilmore, to other computer shops to ask for a battery to only find out that neo only had those batteries on their showroom. Maybe Neo should find a way to make those batteries more accessible (I’m writing on my Empriva 572SVBx right now, and am headed back to cebu tomorrow - It’s not just in my schedule to go to Megamall and ask for a battery).

Other than that, the laptop seems so far working ok, and running faster than the Dell Core 2 Duo Laptop of my auntie running Windows Vista Home Premium (Still with 1Gb of RAM). Well, Basic is more or less the way to go to see almost fast-as-XP speeds with comparable hardware.

  6. What was the laptop you had Ely? I know that some models of Neo laptops have “bad” reputations.

Btw, here’s some screenshots of the Sager NP7250 notebook (cheap notebook sold in the US), which is really a rebranded Clevo M72S (did a google search - google is really the best!).

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/40488198@N00/sets/72157602076605231/detail/

I’m pretty sure the Neo guys bought these 572SVBx/Clevo M72S notebooks (minus some items like the 3.5G HSDPA/bluetooth module or the fingerprint module) and rebranded them (Clevo is known for producing rebranded notebooks - they’re a laptop manufacturer in taiwan).

  9. Hi,

I would like to give an update to the post that I made over a month ago. Here is my recent experience with NEO’s service:

    To: NEO rep,

I am very disappointed that after our email conversation, NEO’s service still falls short.

I was advised that the laptop will be delivered at the shop that is convenient for me. This is the reason why I mentioned Complink-Megamall, because this was the shop that I last visited and inquired about the NEO laptop. A representative from Complink called me just to confirm when I will pick up the unit, to which I said I’ll be picking it up during the weekend.

When I visited the Complink branch to avail of the laptop last Sunday, I was told by their rep that NEO has not delivered the laptop yet.

It is very tiring to be going back and forth and getting these commitments from NEO that does not come to pass. We are now wondering if NEO is just all ‘sales talk’, but no action. Prior to my intention to purchase the laptop, I was advised by IT, especially a certain online gaming company, not to go for NEO, not only because of the brand, but because of the service. Of course, I gave NEO the benefit of the doubt. However, after experiencing these situations and service from NEO, I feel that these advices merit a lot.

Just today, I was told by your company rep if NEO can ‘make up’ for it by delivering the unit to my office instead. I am not holding my breath on that though.

I hope that you’ll be able to do something about the service that you are giving to customers – especially those who would like to purchase your laptops.

I did not mention in my email that my company is recently looking to purchase laptops and is waiting for an update from me regarding the performance of NEO as well as its service. Well, after these experiences, it’s difficult to recommend this brand. :(

  10. i have a neo laptop. endura 531 NLe. i have it for almost 4 months and it works fine for me. the only problem i have encountered is the software and sometimes it slows down but its okey I can live with it. my neo is on for amlost 12 hours. i used it in downloading movies and other files. i think the life of your laptop depends on how you use it. Laptops are very delicate machines that’s why you have to handle it with care. But if you guys don’t really like neo you can always buy those branded and expensive laptop in the market. :-)…

  11. Good day everyone!

Last Sunday,091307,I went to the Cyberzone Techfair in The Block, SM North Edsa. I headed to the Complink booth as I have long planned to buy the “Affordable” brands, so I resorted to NEO. They didn’t have the stock at their booth so I headed towards their Cyberzone location. Long walk. Finally I got to test it and had fallen in love instantly with it’s white chassis. The model is NEO 621NVP2i. I bought it for the following reasons:
    1. I’m a college student and it is a freaking necessity. Everyone around have their own so might as well get one.
    2. I like the white chassis - pretty kewl
    3. Nice specs; 80GB HDD, 1GB RAM, Centrino Duo @ 1.66 GHz, T5500, Windows Vista Home Premium. Affordable @ 45k 0% interest
    4. I’m the layout artist of my university’s official publication so I need to have a portable notebook to show my editor my ideas and layouts (I’m enrolled at a State University along Pedro Gil so that explains why we don’t have our own PC. Suppression of academic freedom! Lol. but hey, that’s another story)
    5. I’ve destroyed my desktop.

So far here are my findings:
    1. The vent gets hot easily. Sometimes I wonder if I can cook bacons beside it.Lol
    2. FREAKING LOW BATTERY LIFE! It lasts for an hour and even LESS considering I always change the battery settings to POWER SAVER (but I really thin no matter what battery setting I use nothing changes; the performance nor the battery life)
    3. The day after I bought it, I brought it to my school. I put it to sleep by just putting the lid down. After 1.3 hours of traveling (a jeepney + LRT), I arrived at my College’s library. Put it out of my bag, lifted the lid and voila. The read blinker blinked several times, still blank screen then out of nowhere it changed its blackness (seems like it was turned on or something) coming to life and boom. Somewhat “BAR CODES” in pink, yellow and red columns appeared at the upper left of my LCD. I panicked. Like, hello! What is happening? This thing is less than a day old! WTF!^$#&%&*^@* To no avail, I waited and waited and waited for what seemed like eternity. Hell, I was full of panic and disappointment! So I decided to pull the battery out and reinsert it. Turned the button on, then everything worked fine.
    4. The Trackpad. Sometimes, whenever I lay my finger down on the trackpad, it seems like it is not following my finger. It moves to several directions and sometimes even jumps to some part of the screen. Goodness.
    5. The Bluetooth. I have a P990i and it has a feature of Bluetooth ad-hoc PAN and no matter how hard I try it is so damn hard to connect. I updated my bluetooth driver and discovered it was some cheap brand, something that sounds like Darnfol, Darfol, Danfol, whatever. I googled its website and to my luck, happened to come across its home page. Beautiful. Just beautiful. No bluetooth software whatsoever. When I connected the my smartphone to my notebook via bluetooth, it failed to install Bluetooth Peripheral Device (but I think this is some problem with compatibility or something).
    6. Ugly speakers. Did NEO reduced the bass? My P990’s speaker blasted to its full volume matches the decibel of my NEO notebook. And my P990 has Mega Bass while the speakers below my LCD, though stylish it may look (it’s one cool speaker), sounds like some cheap desktop computer bought less than P1 000.
    7. Inside the box, there were 3 CDS; Neo burner, Cyberlink Power DVD and the “elegant” NEO CD containing the drivers and the manual. The only thing I feel is lacking is some printed manual. Every gadget has them, even those puny iPod imitations sold at Grand Central, Monumento. Why oh why doesn’t NEO have a printed manual!? And it looks like there was no effort on designing the CD cover. Plus the drivers in the CD are ONLY windows XP COMPATIBLE. So I checked the NEO website, clicked on downloads and selected my unit on the drop down menu. Hallelujah. No driver nor manual.
    8. DVD-ROM. While I was installing some software on my notebook, the setup failed. So I opened the Computer and was quite shocked to see that there is no DVD Drive. What the!? I restarted it, and everything came back to normal.
    9. 1.3 Megapixels webcam. No matter how many lamp shades and ceiling lights I turn on and put right in front of me so that the image on the screen will improve even a bit, hell, seems like this swivel webcam (one cool feature, at least) works like some crappy VGA webcam!

Despite these, I’m still thankful that it has not given up nor have any serious error whatsoever. My NEO notebook is cool in some ways, and uhm…not so good in some ways. But then again, everything has their pros and cons. THERE IS NO ONE PERFECT LAPTOP (well except from my dream notebooks; black macbook and HP Tx1000. LOL!), keep that in mind.

I’m taking good care of my notebook always as I don’t want to end up like the poor people who only got home disappointed with NEO’s service center and service crew. THERE IS NO PERFECT SERVICE! But in Neo’s service case nothing is perfect. LOL!

I hope that this notebook will last for years until Windows changes its OS version again or until the first gentleman is imprisoned, or even better lies down on the lethal chamber, for his sinister and vile doings in our country. Okey Im getting far behind reality now. I just wanted to share what I think about NEO based on my perspective. I hope it helped everyone who will read this.

  13. Actually, it seems like the .3MP and 1.3MP are very similar to each other (chipset BisonCam, a camera found in cheap webcams) - have awful quality. I don’t use the webcam anyways, so that doesn’t bother me a bit. I use my laptop almost exclusively for software development and accessing remote servers for administration.

Btw 4 Cell Batteries are a joke (1 hour plus on your laptop for on the road is frustrating, especially if you’re working in a coffee shop sometimes). I waited for info here from the authorized reseller in Cebu if there was an available larger battery. Four days I have waited and there was no reply to my request. So what I did was to ask the Neo helpdesk (through ym), and I got the info promptly, and they gave me instructions on how to order an 8 cell battery (should give my 572SVBx at least three hours of running on batteries instead of an hour plus).

Sometimes it’s better to go straight to the source, as I’ve realized.

Btw, the price of the 8 Cell battery for my laptop model is P7370.

Running it for more than two weeks now (almost into the third week), and sometimes running it for more than 16 hours (I think I have reached 20 hours a couple of times) straight, it has never failed me yet (except for the disappointing 4 cell battery running time and the tinny speaker sound). It does help if you have a laptop cooler and take care of the laptop as if it were a delicate appliance.

As others have said, if you want good service, get a more expensive laptop from a reputable and known brand. If you’re technologically savvy enough (can change the RAM of your laptop, do your own troubleshooting of windows, etc.) - well, Neo laptops can be a fair alternative (I’ve seen Arnold brand laptops not working after a few months of use), and thinking in a technical perspective, laptops get obsolete in about 2 years time.

  16. I think that NEO has no problem with its later models. The one that I have is a NEO 601RVP and the fan/exhaust is on the side, not at the bottom. It doesn’t get burning hot when I put it on my lap, which is good, since I use it in a place without any airconditioning.

Yes, the battery life of NEO is quite short, even if I followed their instructions to initially charge it for 9 hours. Mine lasts for 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours with wifi usage, emailing, chatting, and some music playing. Minimal usage brings it up to 2 1/2 to 3 hours. I still find it too short though.

I’ll give updates to its performance after 3-6 months. :D

  17. Hi Nicole!

I was surprised to hear that your NEO laptop lasts for 1 1/2 hours. Is this an 8 cell battery? Mine lasts barely an hour and a half with my puny 3 cell battery so I have to bring my charger everywhere I go. Soooooooooo freaking heavy and bulky.

Btw, the exhaust of my laptop is on the side too but it gets “burning hot” at times.

Im really hoping my unit is not as fragile as those mentioned above.

Hi there! Yes, my laptop lasts for about 1 1/2 hours. I timed it myself. I think it helps if you lower the brightness/contrast of the screen. I use my laptop on a study table with a fluorescent light on top, so if I make the screen too bright, the glare hurts my eyes.

Mine is a 6-cell battery. Here are the specs of my laptop:
    # Intel® Centrino® DUO Mobile Technology
    Intel® Core™ 2 DUO Processor T7300
    (4MB L2 Cache, 2.0GHz, 800MHz FSB)
    Intel® 965GM Chipset
    Intel® ProWireless 4965 a/g/n
    # Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium
    # 60-day MS Office 2007 trial
    # 2GB DDR2 Memory
    # 160GB SATA Hard Disk Drive
    # NEO MovieMax 14.1″ Widescreen WXGA TFT LCD
    # Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
    # CD/DVD Burner (Supermulti 8x DVD+/-RW)
    # NEO Motion Eye 2 Megapixel, Built-in Mic & Speaker
    # 10/100 Mbps LAN
    # Integrated 56k Modem
    # 4x USB 2.0, Firewire, Bluetooth
    # 3-in-1 Card Reader, S-Video out
    # 6-cell Lithium Ion Battery
    # 2.4kg with Battery
    # 1 year warranty

    What is your unit?

  19. @Van

I forgot to add that my power plan settings is on “Balanced”. I haven’t timed the “Power Saver” plan, nor the “High Performance” yet. What power plan setting are you using?

Have you viewed the Windows Help and Support regarding Power-saving tips? It gives basic info on how to save power. I have to admit though, NEO has a short battery lifespan. I had a Toshiba laptop once and the battery would last for 2 days! Big difference!

Oh, I’d like to add that Windows Vista sucks. Ugh. This laptop unit is wonderful for online gaming, but I can’t even install any games here, because Vista is blocking it. So, if you’re planning to use your laptop for gaming, I suggest having a Windows XP OS.

    @NEO rep
Any chance that I could change the OS of my laptop? Windows Vista is an eye-candy, but I hardly can do much, since it blocks games like Ragnarok. *sob*

  22. Hi all,

Just a little update. Almost one month running the 572SVBx (just three more days to go and sometimes turning it on for almost 24 hours straight), I’ve encountered no problems with it whatsoever. Like I said before, it runs hot, especially in the side vent area.

The laptop isn’t linux-friendly (as I see most Clevo rebranded laptops having the same problems), but I managed to run Linux Mint and PCLinuxOS on it, sans the webcam (not supported by linux), and the Realtek wifi (somewhat working in Linux Mint, and PCLinuxOS, through ndiswrapper).

Right now, It’s dual booting into Vista and PCLinuxOS (Linux Mint looks nice, but PCLinuxOS is more snappy).

I’m having second thoughts though because of all the negative comments.

There’s a poster at jozzua blog that said the more units sold the bigger the chance that some of the units are defective. I believe yan yung nangyayari sa Neo. Too bad, pangit yung after sales support nila.

Ang mahal kc ng ibang laptops na mgka level yung specs sa Neo na laptop… Hmmmm…do i risk it?

Btw jhay, alam mo ba kung sino yung ODM ng 630nx2?

  40. I purchased a Neo Empriva540SVBE from Octagon at SM Clark on October 26, 2007. The reason I chose this computer was because it was the best available for my limited budget.

Took the computer back to my hotel room and found that it continually froze after just a few minutes. The next day returned the computer to Octagon and told them to have it fixed, replaced or my money back by the end of that day as I was flying out the next morning.

The computer was replaced the same day. Good service (or did they just want to keep my money?).

Since then no problems. The replacement is a good reliable computer.

  41. Well, i finally bought the Neo 630NX2 and tama si jhay, it is a rebranded Compal GL30.

I haven’t experienced any problems with the unit itself.
As far as the tech support service though medyo meron..
Its no biggie really, its just that when i can only expect one reply from neo.care and if i have follow up questions, it would be ignored. I need to email them anew…

  42. I don’t know why Neo insists on using 4-cell batteries - those really don’t last long - one would be lucky to get around 1.5 hours tops - and that’s kung tinitipid mo yon usage.

Neo also has poor cooling design for some reason. Dual Core cpus are hot, but they should run cooler than previous centrino cpus. Try to monitor the cpu temperature (you can use third party softwares like NHC - notebook hardware control). I’m not sure if the fans can be controlled, but you can also try I8kfanGUI).

I almost got myself a Neo laptop before. Good thing I stuck it out with Dell and Toshiba. Yes, mas mahal, but I think avoiding the stress and the angst by going branded, is well worth it imho. I can use them without having to “baby” them, or worry each time I open it up, if it will still be functional or not. :) Just my 2 cents.

  43. i bought my NEO ENDURA 505GL. have upgraded the RAM to 1GB. been using is since January 10, 2007. At times i would leave it on for more than 24 hours. So far i haven’t encountered any problem with it. When i bought it it used to have error message and blue screen especially when i attempt to use the camera. But since I upgraded the memory to 1 GB there’s no more problem. I suggest you add the speed of your RAM to get rid of the friggin hanging issue. and un-install un-neccessary softwares which usually are runningon the background and used up your RAM speed. BE sure to upgrade your OSD to XP SP2. and lastly, as with any other appliances/gadgets. USE IT WITH CARE. NASA GUMAGAMIT LANG TALAGA YAN. OTHERWISE, BAKA MA-EXPERIENCE NYO ANG MGA BANGUNGOT NG FELLOW NEO-USERS SA TECH SUPPORT/SERVICE. hahaha. Cheers! =)

  46. Hi! I got a new NEO Empriva 572SVBx Laptop October 07, just a few months ago. It had the free version of Windows 2007 Office and I was told that I would have to have a full version installed and I did. That was around the 2nd week of October. By late November I was having problems with my NEO. It would shut down every now and I again. It was tolerable because it would start back up again, so I did not mind it much. Then one day, it shut down and would not open the windows program, so I took it for repair at a Neo service center. I got it back within 24 hours, they told me that they had to reformat it and I thought it was fine already. 2 weeks later, a new error message appeared and again my NEO would not start up. I sent it back to the service center, they checked it and I got it back after 24 hours. It worked fine for 8 hours or so. Then when I had to turn it on again, it wouldn’t and showed the same error message. I brought be it back to the service center. They had it overnight, gave it back to me and told me to observe it. This time it would turn on for just a bit. December 17, 2007 I took it back to the service center and was told that the memory may be the problem. They asked me to leave it there and that they would contact me as soon as they have news on what would be done with my NEO. It’s only been less that 48 hours but I am really worried. Its a new laptop, barely any scratches on it. :( I’m really hoping I could get it back soon, before the holidays hopefully. :( I’m hoping everything turns out OK. I’m a writer and that laptop has unofficially become my life! LOL. I’m wishing you guys all the best with your NEOs.

  47. Hey, just an update! apparently I encountered the Blue Screen of Death with my new Neo Empriva 572SVBx. Its really unfortunate, the problem (I was told) was with the memory and they need to have it replaced. I hoping the warranty will cover it and if I do have to pay some fringe that it not cost me too much. :( I am a firm believer that something can last long if you take care of it well enough. I did! no unnecessary downloads, video streaming whatsoever. Just plain Office and Firefox searches. It still gave up on me. Sad? Huh? Good Luck with all your NEOs guys. I hate to admit it, but I should have just sprung for a MAC or a better model. :)

  50. When i was reading all the comments regarding NEO, there were negatives and positive comments, one thing that I would comment is this, If NEO offers P45,000 as the lowest price and P180,000 as the highest price will all of you guys state and write the same comments. Everything here in this world is only valued if they can gauge in terms of money. They ascribed the bad things happened in their laptop to its price. Unfortunately, NEO offers a cheap laptop. Whatever happened in their laptop due to the virus, mishandling of hardwares, all of these were attributed to the cheap products without looking at their negligence. Guys! ANG TINATAGAL NG GAMIT AY NASA GUMAGAMIT. WALA YUN SA BRAND. KAYA DI UMUNLAD ANG PILIPINAS PURO KAYO PINTAS SA MURA.

  55. Hi everyone,

I have a NEO Q-Note M3U Laptop laptop which I bought Dec. 2005 and a NEO desktop PC which I got free from PLDT myDSL.

My experience with my NEO laptop was good - but only until its 1st year. This laptop did the job done even though it’s performance is not very good. It’s slow, it’s speakers are worse than my old laptop (a Toshiba Satellite which I bought Feb. 2001), it has a camera and a mic but I don’t use them because it’s crap, and its sound card as well as its video card is not that good, but acceptable - but who cares, it’s cheap (P29k). I used it for school work, and sometimes, it’s used for the office. I even watched DVDs with it and used it for video and sound editing for school projects.

But here comes the day when my laptop gave up on me. That day, I turned on my laptop and everything worked fine. Five minutes later, after I logged in to Windows, the screen showed the same thing as when you disconnected the antenna/cable from your TV. So what I did is I restarted it and it came back to normal, then the same thing happened. So, again, I restarted my laptop and it showed nothing but a blank screen. The “Power On” LED is on, the HDD LED is blinking, but nothing is shown in the screen. So I brought my laptop to the NEO dealership in SM Megamall for check-up. The tech guy there check it for a while and he said the problem could either be the video card or the motherboard. He told me to leave it there for a week for further check-up, so I left it there. A week later, I went there and he told me the problem was the motherboard. He said the cost for the replacement of the motherboard was about P20k and he is not sure if there are some other problems that might come out after the repair. He suggested that I get a new laptop instead. So I did not agree with the repair and I decided to get a new one instead, so I got their brochure and my laptop. But because of the very short life of my laptop, I am thinking twice to consider NEO again. Then I talked to my mom’s business partner who also have a NEO laptop and he said it’s not good. He replaced the hard drive twice in 2 years. So am I going to buy another NEO? Never mind.

Okay, I am someone who takes of things properly. And if I don’t take care of my things, how come I still have my Toshiba Laptop working good as new? I bought my Toshiba 7 years ago, and I am still using it. Yeah its specs are not good anymore but still it can get the job done. I can update my iPod, do school work, do some sound editing (forget video editing here, it’s crap), and many more. The only problem that I got with it is it’s old, it’s slow, its video quality would make you throw up - but it’s rock solid. Now, I have a new Compaq Presario V3000 as a replacement and I am loving it.

And what about the NEO desktop? Okay it has the same spec as my other desktop but it’s performance is sub-par. It’s darn slow — real darn slow. I wait for 15 minutes after booting into Windows so I can start smoothly - but still, it’s far from smooth. So what can I say, it’s rubbish but never mind, it’s free.

  56. Got a NEO M540G pentium M 1.6ghz/ bought it for P13K. I solved the heating problem by buying a Chill Mat/ upgraded to 1 gb sodimm I bought from tipid pc/ it was running ok except for the crappy battery..it’s fast and light..the bag was tight and I got scratches after 3 days, so I bought a new laptop bag/ it never failed me on my sideline as a freelance Software & hardware consultant.. I used to have a compacq, but it was heavy. if you want a laptop to last for 2 years without getting bankrupt, get a NEO..

  59. I had the same regrets of buying a laptop from neo. The model I bought was m72s and bought it for P38,000. The unit crashed 1 week after my purchase, actually on my second use! The DVD drive and the camera isnt working, added to that is the slowness of it. Since covered by the warranty, i returned it to the store where i bought. I followed it for a month and to my dismay, when i got it, it is still the same problem as before. So to solve the problem, i went to their office along Shaw Boulevard. It took them only a day to repair it. They reprogram the computer and according to them the dvd drive was changed. They told me to reinstall the programs that was erased. Well after installing all the programs, it started to crash again. Well, with these, DONT BUY NEO LAPTOPS!

  61. I have Neo, but i’m not sure if its empriva or endura. but it has something like 540 something to its name. anyways, it has centrino, pentium M 1.60ghz. i had it for a year now, and i’d never had a real problem with it. except for two things: it restarts when i access a specific website, http://www.football365.com; and i can’t use the webcam for YM. in both instances, the guys at the digital playground in megamall couldn’t find a solution to it.
but like i said, i have no disaster story to tell. i use my neo for my studio. it had its share of hours turned on while i master some recordings. i use it for counterstrike and war rock and the graphic’s good enough. i didn;t expect it to have altec lansing sounding speakers but its loud enough. all in all, for its price, i got what i bargained for.

as for the heating, believe me, asus, acer and compaq fare no better. with more powerful processors and platforms coming out, expect more heat.

and the battery life…what battery life???

  62. Neo sell laptops with a very competitive price but be careful you are not getting youre moneys worth. Laptops are not reliable and sometimes dont perform properly, maybe because of substandard materials??. Customer service is not so good either. Have my neo laptop serviced, they returned it but with the same problem, boot up failures, and this is on bios level pa . I strongly strongly suggest to you not to buy neo laptops, its not worth playing a game of chance when the bucks involved are from your personal wallet. Buy toshiba or acer, or better yet a DELL. NEO = LOUSY LAPTOP

  73. Hi Guys,

I have “NEO Empriva 572SVBx” a month old, I dont find any problem except with the pre installed Windows Vista. What i did was upgrade the RAM into 2Gb. Then, I reformat my drive with 2 partations. You know what guys the first time i bought this unit? Burn in for almost 20hrs but everytime the battery fully charge, unplug the power cord. The burn in process takes for 2 days. Gladly it’s passed to my standard. So, I decided to re-install with my own config. I used to simulate OS using virtual servers, it’s doing good. The really nice for this box is small but powerful. And by the way i have plan by the next month to upgrade the RAM into 3 or 4Gb. I hope NEO will give us discount in memory upgrade. Thanks

pls do not be disappointed with the battery life of neo. I
don’t still have a neo laptop (but i’m planning to buy 1) but i have a compaq presario v3156 model which i also bought here in phil for 60k. it has 6 cell battery and it also last 1 1/2 hr to 2 hrs of continous usage.
well what do you expect of 4 cell/6 cell batteries. a laptop computer uses a large lcd, a wifi, a mouse(if any) and some led lights and i may remind also that hard drive plays a big role on consumption of battery power. Of course, it reads datas and process it.

    well i think i helped.

  83. Wow, i just reread what i posted and i must have been wasted when I wrote that hehe.

Anyway, my Neo’s doing good so far.
I’m actually using it right now to type this and
using the free wifi here in the mall.

The were two instances when I had to contact/engage Neo’s tech support.

Once thru email when i had concerns about my battery and charging. They weren’t able to answer/resolve my concern but they did send me battery care tips hehe. So, Neo Care does care ;-) I figured out that the power socket I was
using was bad so it was still resolved.

Another time was when I needed to contact MS to manually
activate my Windows. I had activated it too many times because of excessive reformats and Windows would refuse
to activate it thru the internet. I could call a Toll free number but alas, the local sari sari store phone had its
IDD disabled. So, I went to their service center in SM and used their phone to get my copy of Windows activated. =)

Doc, I think only the GL31 has an internal bluetooth.
And we have the same battery life time(exactly 2 hours
measured thru the NHC’s timer). I think its fair
considering the laptops specs (i.e) Geforce 7600

I got mine pla at 46,000 with a free bag and a 2gig exigo
    travel stick

    Specs are

    Core2Duo 1.86Ghz
    Geforce 7600 256MB
    2gig RAM
    Windows XP ME

Naka jackpot ako considering sa PC Corner, their offer was
52,000 for the same model but with this Specs

    Core2Duo 1.66Ghz
    Geforce 7600 256MB
    2gig RAM
    No OS

I paid in cash pla and yung offer ng PC Corner was considering i would pay in cash and was only good
on that day(Nov 27 ata, their big boss authorized it
kc) otherwise 1gig of RAM lng makukuha ko. Eh I couldn’t
purchase it on that day since 1st of week of Dec ko pa
makukuha yung 13th month pay ko. Buti nlang ganun nangyari kung hnd, hnd nko ng hanap pa ng iba hehe

  84. hi ol.
I just bought my new neo laptop. And yes, all the comments regarding the neo was correct. It restarts by itself. Or I mean it crash everytime it recognize new hardware or software installed.. but after it restart, I still insist to install and run the program. And… Viola! It never crash again. Windows Update helps best in maintaining the stability of your driver and software. So never hesistate to click windows update on your computer. Some neo laptop heats fast and its so true, but did you ever click the silent mode hotkey of your laptop? It minimize the heat but of course it also affects it performance..
A nice and cheap laptop cooler might do as well.
Some neo laptops that are free dos version are applicable with any OS.
My neo endura 540slx was bundled with 80GB and 512MB ram and and windows home OS.
I just recently upraded it to 160GB with 2GB ram and windows vista OS. And it works well.
    see you all nextime

  88. Hi everyone! I have a serious problem regarding my NEO laptop. I recently sent a mail to the neo customer care @ 6:00PM, April 2 08. I just hope they do care to their customers. Anyway, my problem is narrated through my email:

    ————————————————————
    Good Day!

I have been using my Neo 621NVP2i since I purchased it last August 2007. However, last night, I was playing a Reflexive Game and after a while, decided to sleep. I put the lid down and woke up this morning. I opened the lid hours ago, around noon. As it commonly does, the laptop resumes the last application or program that was running. But I was really surprised when all I saw was a black screen and suddenly, there came a non-stop, simultaneous BEEP BEEP BEEP (the sound which I only hear when my notebook has low battery) and the caps lock and num lock LEDs blink non-stop. I waited for a while for the strange occurrence to settle down, but, to my dismay, it did not stop and the LED wasnt blinking. So I resorted to shutting it down by the shut down button. I turned it on again, the beeping and blinking stopped but after a while, it did occur again and worse, it shuts down by itself (without going through the process of proper shutting down).

Is this a hardware malfunction? Should my notebook be checked by a NEO technician? I was calling the PAGE NEO hotline all day and all I get is a busy tone. What happened? I need to bring my notebook back to its normal condition before my summer classes start.

    ————————————————————

    PS
I called the PAGE NEO hotline for 20 times and all I get is a busy tone. Impressive huh?

I hope anyone with the similar problem can help me. Pretty please?

  91. hi guys
i just want to know your suggestions / comments about my problem

scenario: my optical drive no longer read any disc (dvd/vcd/audo/data/etc) and always pops the “no disc found-please insert disc”. i bought my neo empriva 540NVP2i last september 2007. by late november, i started encountering problems with the optical drive. there’s this “selective reading” where it doesn’t read all of the discs i use (even those dvdrw and cds ive been using before). i’m planning to bring it to their megamall office since the costumer service rep told me that their technician will be checking it first to diagnose the problem (obviusly i already got a busted optical drive). will it be better if i’ll just purchase a new drive rather than carry the burden of having the same experience some owners posted in your site? any idea of how long will it take for them to replace the part? of course i will be demanding a replacement of the drive since it is very hardly used and it’s still under warranty. please help. thanks and more power

  92. Hi, I’m a NEO customer too and I’ve been that since 2004. I just don’t know if I’m extremely lucky or extremely careful because I haven’t had any major problems with my NEO laptop since I bought it (well except for one which crashed my drive, but that was purely because of a blackout during a defragging session). Nope, I’m not a newbie in computers, nor somebody who just simply uses the laptop for work or documents. I’ve been a hardcore gamer, avid surfer and a traveler too. My neo laptop has endured through several games - WARCRAFT III, Frozen Throne, NBA live 2005-2007, NeverWinter Nights, - and so many travels - I bring it to work with me everyday (from QC to Antipolo and back since I bought it… commute to ha mga pre!!!)But it has never bugged down on me. Well, I have my share of IT background din kasi and I always make sure my drives and memories are clean especially after surfing. I avoid sudden bumps and stuff like that that I know could easily damage my HDD’s reader, and so on and so forth. Bottom line - I took serious care of my laptop and up to now it’s still geared and ready to take on the new models. It’s the among the first generation of Centrino-powered units (IntelGraphics 900, DDR 333, 30 Gb HDD, the works for Php 65k). Ngayon, ng-upgrade lang ako ng HDD to 60 Gb and added 512 MB memory and sumasabay na ulit ako sa mga naka Core2Duo sa school! I LOVE MY NEO LAPTOP! Pagdating ng XG Station sa Pinas, magiging immortal na ang laptop na to!

    Comment by Lee — May 6, 2008 @ 5:20 am
  106. i think the most common problem issue with NEO laptop is that:
    1. it hangs and freezes a lot!
    2. slow processor( esp. when opening another program/ window)
    3. poor battery life (majority of laptop brand does, even the branded ones).
we had a NEO empriva before and it really freezes a lot, with your cursor stucked up on the screen (Grrhh!!). We had to restart it over and over again..but it’s still the same! BOO!
On the other hand, branded laptops, such as ACER works pretty well.
    1. Very good processor.
    2. doesn’t freeze a lot, unlike NEO (even they claim to have the same processors).
    3. drivers sync well
    >>>battery life is the only con so far. It barely lasts 1 1/4 hours. :-C

    >If buying a Neo laptop is your last resort because you’re in a tight budget. Make sure you have it tested first right before your eyes before bringing it at home.

    Comment by Allen — May 6, 2008 @ 7:24 am
  107. Neo laptops are good, just make sure you will not load it with much media contents or else..boomm!! it would freeze up!
Using it with movie editing programs like Windows Movie Maker is not also advisable. It crashes a lot.
It’s good for making files such as Microsoft Word and Powerpoint..and also photo storage..that’s all..

  108. hi, guys

As a I read all your comments. Neo laptops could be rate as fair.

one feedback of neo is hindi maganda ang pisa.

My neo akong binili as installment plan, As i used it , i expereinced it heats in only 1 hour, madaling magasgas, At noong nag opened ako sa mayron hotspots mahina ang signal naging cause ito na hindi na maka download except yahoomail, msn mail.

Laptops that passed on DTI product standards are ASUS, COMPAQ AND IBM LENOVO.

If buy a second laptop , I will choose compaq , asus or ibm because their performance is better.

  109. At magtanong sa DTI kung anong laptops na pumasa sa kanila standards para yung consumers ay ma aware kung anong laptops ang bibilhin.

    Comment by gorgeous2340 — May 8, 2008 @ 8:47 am
  111. Ross, to be able to have multiple OS, First be sure that the partition of your HDD are all primary partitions. installing OS should be in order from old OS to new, Here is the order install windows XP first followed by Vista. You can’t start from Vista followed with XP. it will not give you choice to boot.and if your other partition is EXTENDED you will not have choices to boot. Make all partition PRIMARY and do the order from old OS to new.

  113. Good day to everybody. I’ve had my Neo Empriva NVP2 for a little over a year now, in fact I think its warranty just expired and despite the constant abuse I’ve put it through it has held up and performed remarkably well- miraculous even, given the number of people here who’ve had their laptops quit on them. Sure my laptop is butt-ugly, has crappy speakers and mediocre battery life but its damn good! Its fast, was cheap (compared to similar spec models from premium brands) and to-date is reliable. I e-mailed Neocare for tech support on max RAM capacity and supported hard drives because I’m planning to upgrade my unit, they replied to me the next day and for me that was all the tech support I needed. As the saying goes “You get what you pay for” and indeed I did.

  117. Dalawa ang Neo laptop namin dati sa company. Celeron 1.3 Mhz lang na processor and with 512 Mb system memory.

    Problem:
    1. Yung isa nasira kagad ang LCD wala pang one year. Ni replaced naman kagad. Nagamit ulit ng co-worker ko.

So far wala naman itong naging problem.

Note: Sa mga feedbacks niyo nagdadalawang isip pa ako kung bibili ako ng personal na Neo laptop ko kahit na yung na issue sa akin e wala naman akong na experienced na major problem. Very minor lang.

I’m planning kasi na bibili ng laptop para sa new job ko. Very limited budget lang ako. Meron akong nagustuhan na Neo model dito sa Octagon, Angeles City na P20K lang. Pero baka titingin pa ako sa ibang dealer na well known brand like Toshiba or siguro HP. Thanks sa inyong feedbacks…

but kidding aside, i think the very reason why most people buy NEO is due to limited budget…hindi naman lahat can afford to buy an expensive one…kaya naman kapag palpakang nabili mo out of your hard-earned money, sino ba naman ang matutuwa nun?

sana lahat nman mas stable at nag improve na ang NEO ngayon compared before and whatever problems have been brought to the people of nEO, they have already made the necessary improvements on the product they sale…

hay, hirap i-convince ang sarili ko na NEO nga binili ko hahahhaha

  130. I’ve had my NEO laptop (love the brand name) for around 2 years now. what mine does is that the dvd drive ejects for no apparent reason even after i’ve formatted the blasted thing for a number of times. another problem of mine is the stupid battery and the power socket (where the laptop connects to the power adaptor). the power socket came loose and would kill the laptop power whenever it was slightly wiggled. so i had to bring the laptop to compuserve and get it replaced and soldered back in place. the battery problem is another thing, it says it’s charged at 100% but when i pull the power cord, the laptop dies. so basically, i have to use the power cord whenever i want to use my laptop. that makes it a big hassle to bring around. last but not the least, my left mouse button collapsed! so now, the damn thing keeps on clicking even if im not touching it! i had to disable the button thru the touchpad utility and use a usb mouse! they shouldn’t call these things laptops for crying out loud! they’re desktops come to think of it (mine needs to be plugged in 24/7, needs a usb mouse, and has a non-existent battery). BOTTOM LINE: YOUR MONEY IS BETTER OFF SPENT IN SOMETHING OF QUALITY WHICH NEO LAPTOPS ARE SADLY LACKING!

i have not yet tried their customer service though kasi wala pa naman akong problem sa laptop ko eh kaya i don’t really know how they are…

ang ayoko lang sa neo ko is naka share yung video card… mahiig kasi ako mag laro ng games eh… sana yung MSI na lang binili ko… hahaha. but i really don’t have any “serious” problem with my neo. matagal nga ako mag play nga games eh… almost 24 hours… tapos ginagamit pa din ng sister ko to to play as well… pero okay pa din. yun nga lang, nakakapaglaro lang ako every weekend coz i don’t bring my laptop in manila kasi i have a pc naman sa work eh. (umuuwi lang ako sa amin kapag weekends. i’m staying in manila for work)…

I’m also PROUD na nakabili ako ng neo kasi perang pinaghirapan ko naman yung pinambili ko eh, hindi ko naman hiningifrom any1.

to all planning to buy a laptop, my advise is just pagisipan nyi na muna talaga kung anong brand ang gusto ninyo. kasi yung ibang friends ko using a laptop (MSI and ACER) they also do not have bad experience with their laptop… actually they adivised me to buy MSI or ACER, kaya lang ito lang kaya ng budget ko with the specs that i want eh.

    share ko lang.

  132. guys for me, thers no such thing like durability, its in the user. mapa IBM pa yan, toshiba etc. its all the same,.. brand name lng ang difference and price of course. if youre a brand concious go for the branded ones, but if you are practical go for the price. technically speaking what ever brands, they all have the same peice of hardware and the same functions. now its up to you to take care of it.

Like the last time I had it upgraded, it took them only an hour to do it & that is because may nauna na sa akin. How much is a replacement battery? Where can I get it? Thanks for any info.

  136. hey guys! i bought a neo laptop endura540slx model 6 months ago. i didnt encounter a single problem with my notebook to think that my laptop is always on for about 7 hours a day. i think, yung mga naunang model ang kadalasan may publema. so far, nag improve na ang neo notebooks. siguro dahil mejo matagal na silang nasa market.

i will recommend neo to anyone who has limited budget but would like much power that neo offers. kung may pera naman, then go buy mac, dell, or whatever.

rating ko sa neo notebook ko is 9/10. no exaggerations!

  137. me and my mom bought the newest and latest Neo Laptop the Elan L2110 and it looks great performs great, etc. It’s great but i just had it for less than a month so i still have to see how long this product will last. I shall take good care for it. I decided to buy a Neo laptop because it’s a Filipino company. I will be using this for school projects and assignments.

If you want gaming don’t consider other brands unless it’s ALIENWARE and DELL.

  141. I recently purchase Neo Basic last Saturday June 21. I love the design, slim and sylish. Right now I haven’t encountered any problem. Except for the battery. It last only 30 minutes on maximum brightness, media playing, plus surfing the net.

Yes it was running hot on its exhaust on the side. But, if i were to compare the heat that it produce. It’s much “cooler” that the acer that I used before. I even don’t feel any heat on its palm rest.

I don’t know but maybe NEO (barebone manufacturer clevo) had find ways to reduce heat.

I Also asked its technical support if I can upgrade its memory and they immediately responded.

Maybe Neo is improving in someways. Let’s hope that they shall consistently and continually improve.

  145. Hi Sonny, the LCD dimming is a power saving feature integrated in many notebooks. Since the LCD consumes a significant amount of power, it is dimmed when the unit is on battery. The brightness can be readjusted using the Fn and the brightness up key — it would have a symbol for light and an up arrow(usually F9 on most models). If you could give us your unit details (serial number/model) and email address we can help you more.

Also, the following are the shortcut keys for the functions you noted for this unit: the Webcam is Fn + F10, the wifi is Fn + F11 and the Bluetooth is Fn + 12. 155. sonny! the same lang tayo ng laptop palpakin n NEO 2165N..

  157. Hi there!

I bought my NEO laptop, a QNote Core Solo (Vista) almost a year ago. For like 2 months, it was perfectly working until the DVD player started getting picky. I used only original software on my computer so it was surprising that it won’t play some of the cds anymore. Anyways, it wasn’t that much of a problem so I let it be. After a while, my computer crashed so I had my OS reinstalled, only to find out that my WiFi was busted. I couldn’t access the Wifi in our school because my laptop doesn’t recognize the IP addresses. THEN here comes my real problem. Because I’m a freelance graphic designer, I HAVE to have good LCDs. Just 2 weeks ago, my LCD got busted on me while I was editing a very important layout for an org. I called the NEO hotline so many times already (32 times, to be exact), and it was always busy for me. Fancy that. My LCD spontaneously changes colors. How to get it to work? You have to pinch the edges like crazy (I even used one of those big clipboard clips) until you get the ‘right’ colors. Now I had our school technician tighten the LCD screws, but still no effect. O.o

My LCD can turn very wonky - it even goes to negative colors! (black turns to white, red turns to green, etc.) How much do you guys think it would cost for me to get this fixed. And I know its just the LCD that’s broken, since when I hook up my laptop to a monitor, it works fine. O.o

  159. Hi! I’m planning to buy a tablet. But it’s expensive. Until I saw the Neo t2100 Tablet. It used to be priced at P60k plus. But because it’s not moving, they lowered and lowered it. Now, a shop is giving it at P39,500. I think that’s very cheap! the HP tablet costs around P80k. And the specs of the Neo is even better. Im sure the quality of HP is better. But if Neo tablet is not far, I might consider it.

Any reviews regartding Neo T2100 Tablet?

  162. I bought a NEO laptop and used it for one year. I encountered the poor battery life and cooling system until I can save up for a new one. Now my sister is using the unit like a desktop and never bothers to take it outside. I can recommend MSI and Acer which are now becoming affordable. I bought a MSI notebook with Dual Core and dedicated video but with lower memory capacity, Its a great buy since I can buy an additional 1GB memory for 990 pesos.

  163. Guys, I’m planning to buy B2161 N as present but I want to make sure this will not be a burden to the recipient. Anyone with an experience using this laptop?

I had a dell 5150 with 2.8 P4 proc previously which undergone a motherboard repair after 1 year due to heat issues. Now what I did to reduce the heat, I disable hyperthreading and speedstep to keep the proc function at minimum which is = minimum heat (proc is the hottest component of PC). Currrent speed is still ok, at 1.6GHz with temp at 45-50C (previously running at >60C at 2.8GHz). Now I want to know if the Bios of B2161 can access this feature to modify proc performance, so that I can tweak it in case I feel that the laptop is running too hot. Anyway, laptop will only be used for common applications.

As of now, I’m still choosing between 3e PC from Asus and this neo model. But I’m considering neo because of bigger storage and LCD which is good when watching movies, while the thing that I like with 3e pc is it has better reliability, mobility, and is more cute as a present. Proc performance is not that “big deal” as long as its near 1Ghz speed.

  165. Oh please give me a break! For the graphic artist out there and gamers who want to squeze more out of neo’s videocard, you all should know that neo’s using a via chrome. Its a class 6 type of videocard.

Neo’s specs are competitive @ its price. But there are specific laptops for specific tasks. Its just common sense.

Neo’s for simple office work, and web surfing. That’s it!

  167. Hi Brownies,

If your other option is an EEE PC, maybe you should also check out our eXplore series. It’s roughly the same size, but chunkier. Some folks say it looks like a kid’s toy, but my father in law likes it because it looks like it can take abuse in the field. On the other hand, my aunt liked the EEE PC because it was sleeker looking and storage space wasn’t so important to her — she just used an exernal drive to store the majority of her files.

  177. Been using a Neo Empriva 672 for work, browsing and downloading music and games. So far its been very reliable. Had to change my memory (via-warranty) which was done quickly and they were very accommodating. There are power settings so I just use the “power saver” or “high power” depending on the situation. For the specs I got, it was a steal compared to other brands:) Don’t expect to play games unless online based and you won’t be disappointed.

  188. my neo endura still lives and kicking! but in response to chris(msg 175), you are very unfortunate. not only did your neo break down, the reps or tech support or whatever you call them idiots, are simply muddling through their tech knowledge.

no disrespect to the learned ones out there, but unfortunately many tech people(especially in IT) are taught how things are done, rarely why things work that way, and the result is lack of analytic skills. at the slight instance of a problem, they assume (often wrongly) what the problem is and right straight to so called remedies (which will only increase the problems). like car mechanics in the casas, they don’t know the principle of how each pc parts works and how they relate to each other. kulang sa theory kaya palpak lagi.

kaya when you bring your neo to the neo shop, expect little or no solution. ako rin, my neo restarts each time it accesses a specific website. can you believe that? worst, the neo guys couldn’t figure out what’s going wrong. they even blamed my OS as fake, when it’s not. it’s an original OEM with licence. stupid kasi eh. kung ako lang nag aral ng IT, baka pagsasampalin ko mga yun sa kakulangan ng kaalaman sa propesyon nila.

    switch to mac instead.

  191. To The Software & Driver Developer:

I have visited the NEO web site since i bought my Neo 621NVP2i last year, i am looking for the driver to download for WindowsXP but i havent found any driver support of the model even for the Windows Vista. I am Filipino so that i bought Philippine Product, sana naman gawin nyo yung Dapat na natatanggap ng TUMATANGKILIK sa inyo. Kaya kasi maraming Pilipino ang walang bilib sa sariling produkto.

Isa pa, i agree with Ms. 146 commenter nyo… Hirap humingi ng support sa inyo. Request lang, maging professional naman kayo.

  192. To Commenters:

Here some help, NEO621NVP2i doesn’t work correctly with WIndows XP. NEO has no driver support or some other way to solve this crashing problem. If you buy this brand, dont even think to buy WIN XP os to downgrade it from windows vista… Tsk! tsk! sayang lang pera nyo… (detailed problem with XP)

CAMERA, BLUE TOOTH, - Driver for XP
snaps stick pointing device - Vista.

    to solve it—-

    1. do not turn off or restart your unit when the camera and bluetooth device is “ON”. It will turn to blue screen it means and restart even if you shut it down.

    2. Make sure you turned “OFF” the camera and bluetooth before you shut down or restart the unit.

    3. SNAP stick pointing device. if you are using Vista this device crashes, down load lang kayo ng updated driver sa web site nito.

thanks.. i hope this will help.

actually wala naman ako prublema sa physical and performance ng NEO, basta tama lang ang OS na ini-install nyo. Make sure you have the updated driver…

    THANKS

if you are using windows vista, just update your OS by using windows update, then it will automatically search for updated driver for your unit system drivers, but if you are using pirated OS, you are not able to avail this service… Microsoft blocked this service. thanks… any way i have installer for nut i don’t give give it out with strangers.

As it turned out kinailangan ko pang mag download ng driver for the Nvidia graphics from the Nvidia site para hindi humihinto ang pag nag-play ng DVD. E paano na mlang kaya’yung hindi marunong ng mga ganung solusyon. Talo na agad sila sa binili nila.

  213. i finally brought my neo laptop to their mega mall customer dis-service. it started showing problem with the monitor a few days after i bought it. unfortuntely i use it everyday for my work (no work, no pay) but 3 months later the problem had become so bad ala na ako choice.

i was told factory defect daw yung video cable or something like that. kaso di naman masabi kung kelan pwede makuha. basta minimum of 7 working days. so pwede rin abutin ng 7 years.

i admit i bought neo because cheap sya. pero hindi porke cheap eh automatically inferior na (in the same way na di dahil mahal ay high quality)

besides neo should advertise na cheap ang laptop nila dahil inferior ang quality. kung nilinaw nila yun eh di sana nag tyaga ako mag ipon ng kaunti pa para bumili ng mas mahal pero dependable na brand.

so far i lost P7,000 dahil seven days na ako wala trabaho. kung abutin ito ng 2 weeks bale P14,000 na mawawala sa akin. that’s more than the “savings” i got from buying the cheap neo laptop.

at saka kung palpak products nyo bawiin nyo naman sana sa customer service. kaso palpak din.

Been turning it on for more than 3 days at a time, no problems at all - I’ve just upgraded to a 160Gb harddisk myself with no problems whatsoever.

It’s cheap kaya i became interested to buy because the specs fit my standards, and also to save money. my complains are the battery and the hot vent kahit na my is air-conditioned, parang pwede na mag-iron dun. hehehe… minsan din napapaso ako. I also tried vista but it’s super bagal kaya naka xp na ko. mas mabilis. As of now Ok naman ung takbo ng laptop ko.

I bought a laptop last October 2008 for my daughter and after 2 months the display was flickering.I brought it to Cyberzone last November 4, 2008 and after 7 days when I followed it up I was told that the LCD cable was defective and they don’t have parts available locally when in fact this neo computers are manufactured in the Philippines. The Neo representative cannot give the date when the unit will be repaired except to say that they will facilitate it. It’s frustrating that we, as customers, are made to suffer for the our computer defects this manufacturing company is responsible for. They don’t care about their customers and don’t even bother to update you when their customer care website tells you that they will update you in 2 days. I told the representative to replace the whole unit because my daughter needs it badly - she is a computer science student. I was told that I will referred to his customer care supervisor. Up to now, after several days, I have not been given even a benefit of a reply.

My computer is still in their custody. I have don’t have a slight idea of when the computer will be repaired or replaced or whatever.

  235. like one person said here previously there is no such things as a perfect laptop and all laptops will eventually experience technical problems.

so my suggestion is to find a brand that is known for high quality servicing. so far i’ve had only two laptops. a toshiba and my current neo.

toshiba has a very good customer service. nung nasira cooling fan ng unit ko (after five years of constant use) nagawa nila within the day. actually dapat i-replace yung fan but since weekend noon at sarado yung distributor ng spareparts ng toshiba and i needed my laptop ginawan nila ng paraan.

i heard asus has a very good customer service but i can’t confirm this.

neo has a very lousy customer service and this comes from my personal experience. in my case the unit i purchased had a defective video cable. according to our IT sa office it only takes a few minutes to replace it.

but neo took 9 working days (di counted saturday and sunday) to do the job. when i asked why that long kasi the replacement part will have to be shipped from taiwan. as if naman di pa na-imbento ang overnight shipping.

sirain na nga products ng neo palpak pa customer service kaya double whammy ka sa neo. the savings you get from buying a neo laptop is not worth it dahil mauupos ang ilang araw ng buhay mo sa frustration.

  236. To Eric Yes your right asus has good customer service. Imagine 2 years warranty san ka pa. Okay naman asus kya lang Pngwa namen ung casing kc after 3 mos. nasira agad ung Case ung panel case mismo then they replace it bagong bago kya lang ang problema eng0t ang IT nila dun case lang sira pati video card pinalitan kc daw tumutunog nung binuksan ung case. Pinlitan nila mismo pati video card without the owners consent oh dba? malupet? Kau na bahalng humusga sa asus =D

  237. i think that’s a very proactive approach ng asus and i definitely prefer that to neo’s “walang paki-alam sa pobreng customer kaya maghintay at manigas kayo” approach

  239. from all the laptops available in the phil, yung bagong neo lang ang may 9600m gs na vid card… all of the others have either 9500m gs or lower.

    >>> what is the advantage of this 9600m gs na vid card?

unless may lalabas na matinong laptops sa pinas, i’d still go for a neo.

    >>> are you saying na walang matinong laptop brand sa pinas except for neo? that neo is superior to laptops made by sony, mac, acer, asus, hp, etc?

    Comment by eric — December 3, 2008 @ 3:42 pm
  240. Well… If you don’t get the lemons(ung mga defective), I’d say that neo has the most affordable laptops for its specs. The time I bought my neo 2 years ago for 39k ung equivalent specs nya sa acer is like 50k. LOL. Haven’t tried the customer care cuz my neo never had any problems. 2years+ and still kicking considering the fact that I am abusing it.
Battery life is still 2 hours gaming 3 hours for music and other stuff. Ang masasabi ko lang is malas lang tlga ung mga nagpost d2 na pangit ung nakuha nilang unit. LOL.

    Comment by XKaizX — December 3, 2008 @ 10:20 pm
  241. i actually agree with you that the specs of neo laptops are quite good for its price. but unfortunately i did get a lemon and that effectively neutralized the pros of buying neo and added to the cons.

if only there was a way of 100% identifying the good units from the bad units i will have a higher opinion of neo laptops.

teka meron nga ba? tips naman dyan…

  242. huhuhuhu… kawawa naman ang neo… neo pa naman ang gmit ko..
i bought this neo endura 320/350SL on aug 2006.. so far its still kicking… low specs nga lng xa,but nakakagmit ako ng photoshop, ms ofis 2007.. and a video editor.. ingat lng cguro ang keylangan pinaghirapan kasi to ng tatay ko ehh.. only prob sa neo is ang speaker napakahina at ung optical drive na nabasag.. sa ngaun mabilis na xa mag init at maingay na ang fan nya, mabilis na mag drain out ang battery nya.
    iingatan ko to’

  243. I have a NEO Endura 531 GL for two years now. Wala syang problema at all. At that time, the specs of my NEO was comparable dun sa mga high-end laptops worth 70k and above. I got mine for 41.5k. Matibay talaga ang NEO. Well, nasa paggamit na rin, basta maingat din, di naman masisira ang gamit basta-basta. Dun sa mga minalas sa pagbili, it’s really bad to hear that the after-sales of NEO are not ok in handling their clients. Sana lang umabot ang mga hinaing ninyo sa kanila to properly address such problem.

I have seen in the website of NEO and Complink a NEO Tablet laptop modelled as T2100. Mukhang maganda sya and at 41k, very reasonable ang price. I’m planning to get one pero I want to know first if the performance is ok. Ganda kasi ng specs nya, very promising. I tried to search sa Youtube pero wala pang masyadong magandang reviews. Anyway, hope you guys who bought this T2100 tablet PC can share your thoughts about its features and performance.

Thank you, God bless, at Mabuhay kayong lahat!

  246. for a simple problem like replacing a defective video cable that takes only minutes to fix it takes them NINE WORKING DAYS. that means di kasama weekends at holidays sa bilang ng araw.

sa mas complicated na problem sasabihin nila AT LEAST NINE WORKING DAYS but they will not tell you how long it would really take. DI PO NAMIN MASABI lang ang standard answer.

pag inabot ng xmas break ang unit mo sa kamay nila next year na ang balik nyan sa yo.

i sympathize with you. i know how annoying and frustrating it can be. my suggestion bili ka marami antacid at i’m sure like me sisikmurain ka ng husto sa neo.

  255. Hi. I have two NEO computers; one was bought two years ago and the newest was just last October 2008. Both are working perfectly. I wouldn’t buy another NEO had I experienced those what other users have. I am a constant user of computers. In fact I have three. One is an ACER laptop. My NEO computers are as reliable as the ACER lap top supplied by my office.

So far the only minor problem I had with my older NEO was its DVD drive. It was promptly replaced by a branch of OCTAGON here in Legazpi City.

  256. I got a NEO BT2165 last April 2008. Cheap for the price of 27K. I only use it for net surfing and typing. I rarely use it coz I do a lot of research at work na so actually I just use if in case I need to chcek mails at home. On it’s first week nag-hahang na agad sya. Inisip ko baka natura lang kasi bago. So I said let’s give it a chance pero nagiging mas madalas na and nagkaroon na ng vertical lines. Pag nagpunta ka sa command prompt nagshu-shutdown sya at nag-ooverlap yung mga letters pag nagtatype ka. Also, yung power nya ndi nag-o-ON kapag ndi nakakaplug sa power outlet. Grabe! It all happened w/in the first 6 months. So I decided to send to NEO for repair. Pinalitan lang nila yung lcd cable. Tas pagbalik sakin ng unit puro gasgas smaantalang super ingat ako dun. All problems keep on recurring so parang wala lang after 2 weeks na nasa kanila yung unit wlaa rin palang mangyayari ginsagasan pa yung laptop ko. Grabe ang NEo wlang kwenta. I suggest wag na kayong bumili nito. Basura to! Sisilawin lang kauo sa specs at low price but in the end mas mapapagastos pa kayo. Worst, ibabato nyo na lang. Nakakasisi talaga! Have I read about this before, malamang ndi ako bumili nito. so crap!

Bugbog din sa gamit ito halos 12 hours overnight downloading of psp games, mp3 and divx movies, I do photoshop picture editing, HTML and CSS. Model no. M540BAT-6, DC11.1V, 400mah, 6-87-M54GS-4D3A. Paki email na lang sa akin (6 cell at 8 cell? kung meron)plz…thanks

  264. well guys i have read several comments (negative..heheh)
i’m using neo endura gl31 model purchased august 2006 @ pc corner gilmore branch - dual core, 80gb, 1gb memory..
sigura nga tsambahan lang ang pagbili, so far ok naman performance ng laptop ko, except mabilis nga maginit ung sa exhaust nya and medyo mabilis madrain yung battery (common naman sa mga laptop un eh) pero ok na kapag may nakatutuk na fan kahit mahina lng ung ikot..heheh im planning to buy a laptop cooler for this problem @ openpinoy.com..i even use my laptop to download movies w/c i left it on overnight
    to download using dsl 386kbps.

w/ windows xp os ok nman ung run ng system. last week i upgrade to vista ok din, i like the graphics but i’m planning to go back to my previous os (win xp) coz vista got several technical issues, the built-in audio, camera & cardreader w/ laptop are not supported w/ vista.

so gud luck! dapat siguro kung bibili ka ng cheap laptop or khit anong brand dpat lng alam natin gamitin from software to hardware troubleshooting..

just come to think of it kung bibili ka ng laptop na presyo ay P80k up are you sure that it will last forever & after few years for sure luma na yan coz of new release model..its practical to buy a b/n laptop w/ a price ranging from P20k-30k.. khit siguro yearly makakabili ka w/ latest specs if you can afford P80k…

  265. I’m using one of Neo’s low end laptops; basics. Probably she’s on ther 5th month. I haven’t experience any problem for now. Everything runs smooth. Probably i take good care of it, and I know how to install its OS and drivers that’s why it runs perfectly.

Piece of advice lang: If you purchase this product make sure na alam nyo ang gagawin nyo. Probably madaming dismayado sa neo because of misuse or not following the procedure. May manual naman. And ofkors lahat ng bagay basta iningatan tatagal ang buhay.

  266. Hi guys,

I just found out about this forum after searching yahoo for the neo home page, i browsed this instead and got surprised at the numerous negative feedback on neo laptops.

I’ve been using an Empriva 540SX for the almost 2 straight years now and quite frankly i’m very very very satisfied with my laptop.

Oh and when i say almost 2 years straight, i mean really STRAIGHT, literally. After using it in my routine lectures at school in my anatomy classes (usually from 7am - 8pm), i unwind at home by going on line to play rf-online until 1am-2am.
Afterwards, i just sleep and let my mcafee update and scan my laptop, sometimes windows xp auto updates and installations, and of course the trusted windows defender scans and updates. When i wake up in the morning, i have a beefed up pc.
So what i’m saying is —- I RARELY TURN OFF MY NEO LAPTOP — for the last 2 years and counting (talk about abuse!)
That’s why i can’t seem to understand the big fuss about neo laptops as low quality low end, poor performance laptops.
Most of my colleagues don’t use their laptops (vaio, dell, toshiba, acer, etc., and yes even mac) as abusively as i do, and yet they’re the ones who frequently have hardware problems - mostly due to handling.
Simply put - It’s not the pc nor the brand. It’s the user and their manner of use.
I wouldn’t trade my neo laptop for a high end laptop that wouldn’t obviously stand up to my beating. It’s cheap, it’s rugged, it’s neo. it’s for real rugged users, not for ignorant whiners ^_^.

tip: if you set your pc to hibernate when you close the lid, and once you open it the screen turns stripes and it doesn’t turn back on, it’s probably because your hard disk(s) is/are already off. Solution - check your hibernation settings. If you don’t know how… you shouldn’t be using a laptop, nor point your finger and blame your neo lapee for that matter. The problem is you…i rest my case ^_^

  270. One observation i have with my new neo elan l3101 is that, the pxe boot or the pre execution environment cannot be disable in the bios, i have disabled it several times still it enables on its own.. But my computer boots fines but normally PXE can be disable.

Any rep from neo has the other way around to disable this? so i consider this as one of the defects of this brand. Hopefully anyone can prove my assumption is wrong..

    Comment by web dev — January 28, 2009 @ 8:21 am
  271. i’m happy i didn’t go for NEO. last christmas, my dad gave me freedom to choose a laptop worth 60K, then I heard that NEO only costs about 30K, compared to other brands with similar specs. But then my classmates discouraged me because nagkakaproblem nga daw yung neo, so i bought a sony VAIO CS instead and couldn’t be happier. Ubos nga yung 60K but wala namang sakit ng ulo.

advice ko, well, think thrice before you buy NEO. i’m not saying na pangit yung brand na yun, but it does pay to listen to customer feedbacks. good luck to all of you, and i really feel sorry na ganyan ang nangyari. and i also suggest the next time you buy, dun na kayo sa established brands na. at least sure na kayo sa quality like acer, sony, toshiba, dell, etc. :)

  272. I definite agree with post number 258.

BTW most of the people that post here are the ones that have neo problems. If all of the people who are satisfied and enjoys neo wud post here as well, then its a no contest. NEO is the most practical laptop out there. Next maybe wud be MSI, but lets talk about Neo here. 2 Years ago I bought a Neo Endura and man does it endure!!! I RARELY TURN IT OFF, ABUSE IT LIKE HELL with no electric fan cooling it and ITS STILL KICKING. I used to play World of Warcraft 18 hours a day for 6 months and it havent affected the my laptop in any way. Battery is still 2-3Hours depending on use and I never needed customer service because I never had any problems with my Neo. But sadly its specs no longer meets my needs so I bought a new NEO LAPTOP Elan (VERY NICE GAMING LAPTOP!!!) And Its FREAKIN CHEAP FOR ITS SPECS! 56K for HighEnd gaming specs that are equivalent to 70-80k if to other brands with the same specs. I am really happy with it and currently I can play any game I want to. Fallout 3, Crysis Warhead, Dead Space, COD4 and many many more.

Basically what I want to say is that NEO is not a bad brand. Well, maybe the customer care is but not the laptop. Just thoroughly inspect your laptop before buying it. Do a stress test, and test EVERYTHING before buying it. And if something goes wrong after a few days of weeks (which rarely happen), dont go to a Neo service center. Instead, go the place where you bought the laptop, they do things faster there.

Adios! Go Neo! Hope they will release more amazing laptops in the future! =D

  273. Hi all,

It’s been almost two years since I bought my 572SVBx laptop from Neo, and the verdict? It’s been pretty good to me.

I turn it on for 4 days at a time, no aircon, throw practically everything at it (video editing software, programming), and it’s been through a lot of abuse.

Basically, the last poster is right… it’s how you take care of it that counts. I run updates to antivirus and windows update often. And I’ve bought a vivid 1100 as well, which works really well.

Again, customer support needs improvement, but as long as you know how to take care of your laptop, it will go a very long way even with abuse.

    Comment by Jay — February 3, 2009 @ 11:04 pm
  276. Yep everything is ok. As for the heat issues, its just like any other gaming laptop. The video card heats up fast especially when playing high spec demanding games. But all you need to do is to elevate the laptop a bit, about 15 degrees shud be okay and an electric fan facing it. There is a big difference in heat between gaming and non-gaming laptops. My old neo didn’t have a dedicated GPU(graphics processing unit) or video card and I cud use it 24/7 without any cooling required(but the games I was able to play was very limited). But as I have said on my last post, BE SURE TO STRESS TEST THE LAPPY before buying it, this is to avoid buying lemons. You have the right to test the lappy your about to buy.

  278. I am a NEO owner, mine is the basic m540sr with celeron 1.86ghz 512gig linux. bought it last may 2007 for 19,999.00 upgraded my RAM 2gig transcend memory and upgraded my os to vista ultimate. The Battery life last only 1.5 hrs. LCD screen flickers when i push the screen back and forth.Fan is always working and due to extreme hotness coming from the vent area.Anyway all of this is satisfactory since the price is low compared to others, since its cheap i dissassembled my unit to clean the dust inside and work on its flickering screen. I forgot to tell you that i also upgrade the RAM myself I just put 1gig + 1gig ddr2 667 transcend.Regarding the flickering of the screen the only problem is,the wires connecting to the LCD screen were not properly placed so when you move the screen the wires connecting to the lcd was being pushed downward making the connection unstable. So i put an adhesive tape to correct the problem well as of know im still enjoying my neo, without the flickering of screen. But for this OS vista ultimate for a celeron its quite ok for emailing purposes but I suggest to stick first to windows xp sp3 for the time being that windows 7 is still on beta stage. For those who are commenting on its battery life Maybe you will have a 2nd laptop a netbook so you can enjoy surfing mobile make ur neo ur replacement desktop less the electricity bill. For people who are thrifty and wise, why buy expensive computer a month or two there will be another newer and your old one depreciates in price.NEO uses Clevo a brand in taiwan with cheap but quality computers. Thanks and God Bless

  283. Hi Guys,
Regarding dun sa mga Interested about the quality of the Neo Tablet T2100. Its Realy good and its worth the pricE. I bought my laptap like 6 months ago and I dont encounter any problems, plus the performance is really great.Actualy, before I bought the Neo T2100, I was thinking of buying the HP Tablet since Im really a fan of HP Gadgets. But after seeing the neo T2100, I realize that for the same Features why should I pay 50k more. Well, At first I thought I might regret it since my wife already agreed that I can buy the HP Tablet, why should I risk buying A NEO. But then I realize that 50K could go along way. And Im happy with my decision because I didnt encounter any problem upto now….
I saw the comments of other people here and they say that there is no perfect Laptap..Well, The Neo Tablet T2100 is quite perfect for me….

go to control panel then click power options.

in the power scheme tab make sure the “turn off hard disk” is set to “never”

if that doesnt solve the problem set the “system standby” to “never”.

  286. I’ve had my 540SR since May 2008. It originally had Vista but it was too slow for my needs so I uninstalled it and put in XP, XP-x64, and Zenwalk 5.2. The laptop runs 24 hrs/day without airconditioning, and so far, no problems. I just use a homemade USB case fan to cool the left side of the unit. I use the laptop for running chess engine tournaments, downloading huge files, and playing audio and video. For times when I need to take the laptop out of the house, I installed a software called Notebook Hardware Control. It helps lengthen the battery life since it slows down CPU speed for applications that don’t really need the full speed. It also helps to prevent the unit from heating up too much. The only trouble I’ve had with this laptop is that other Linux distros won’t install right off the bat. But I guess many other laptop brands have the same problem. In my case, the problem is due mostly to Linux/Xorg video drivers and not in the laptop itself. So, I guess I’m one of lucky ones so far, judging from the number of negative comments about NEO laptops in this blog.

wat i can comment so far was about when we bought the unit.. we paid its amount as stated in their display.. btw the model was cheap… it cost less than 30k… but wat i think my concern was that it says that it has a free OS but when we bought it, COMPEX (in Makati) charge us an additional 1.6k for the OS and they did not put it in the receipt.. haiz!!! talk about money schemes…

i have my neo empriva 572SVBx for about 2 years and 4 months and it still works fine with me,
the only problem i encounter are the viruses that most of the users are obviously the major prob…

i always abuse my lappy for 24/7 for school works, programming, video editing, and downloading anime&videos (obviously that is my hobby! lol…)

i will quote what Clint said on the comment # 273

    Comment by torogi — May 11, 2009 @ 9:49 pm
  316. Well, actually, yung mga bagong nabibili na OS jan sa “tabi tabi” (if you get my drift) na xp, malamang at least may service pack 1 na. Kung wala, mura lang naman yung tabi tabi version, ask for a version that has at least SP1. The reason xp sp1 is important is they put AHCI drivers in sp1. (pag loading files na wala ka pang sp1, you have to press F6 and load the AHCI drivers manually for a SATA controller). Anyway, what Zeuxis can also definitely be a factor…in the BIOS (when the computer turns on, you can start tapping F2 to get to BIOS), there are usually tabs like boot, power, etc. Some makers have an option for XP or Vista (you might want to check this) or some AHCI modes. IF yours has that, please post back.

  317. @webdev: Does everything reset (including time) or just PXE being enabled? Can you remove LAN from the boot sequence (since that’s all it should be anyway, right?).

  318. @Torogi, looking back at your original post, I think maybe we’re going the long way around here. HAve you tried compatibility mode for these programs with Vista? You can check out: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-compatibility-mode/

Also, if performance is the issue, you may want to try turning off some unnecessary Vista functions like Aero and superfetch as these may give a significant performance increase.

    Comment by TRD — May 11, 2009 @ 10:43 pm
  319. If your not satisfied with Vista you can also try the RC version of windows 7.There’s a lot of new features and a much more responsive than Vista. Performance wise & it save u much space in your HDD, give it a try.

  322. I actually bought a NEO laptop (B 2148N)just last week. The thing is, I did not buy it for me, but for the department where I’m under. I was given a budget of 30k, and it was up to me to buy any brand with the best specs I can come up with.
I asked/consulted 2 friends, both used neo before, and they said that you’ll get your money’s worth with it.

I figured, the specs are good enough for me, it’s cheap, and the dealer where I bought it happens to be a very reputable service center of cellphones and incidentally an authorized one for neo too. So yeah I went ahead with my decision.

I asked the computer whiz in the place where I work the next day whether I should worry about it, and he told me that I should worry more if the laptop is handled carelessly, then problems will certainly crop up.
Still, finding this website/forum, I will keep everyone posted about the performance of the mentioned laptop, as well as the after sales service…(which I hope I wont need if it’s about repairs or anything related to it.

  323. As of now my clevo m540 sr also known as neo basic 2160 wich cost me around 20k way back in 2007 fortunately is still alive and kicking.Cpu is Intel Celeron 1 gig ram (upgraded) Hdd 60 gig,Im running this machine everyday for more than 18 hours almost half of its life is used by my 7 year old son and a 5 year old daughter for their online games and sometimes for my emails and photo and music downloading.BTW i already posted 1 article here regarding this machine’s flickering lcd that i already self repaired.Originally OS of this product is linux change it to XP pro then Vista. Now i upgraded it with Windows 7 RC version build 7000 testing purposes only.If you have not tried Windows 7 I dare you to do so, It is more responsive than Vista and start up of it is really quick since installing it needs a clean install.Right now I am using a Huawei E 160 modem wireless broadband for my internet connection (my actual speed test result is 1.8 Mbps download much more faster than my Smart bro 999 then wich is .3 Mbps only)my Neo serves me as a host computer running almost 18 hours daily for me to have an access to the internet. My other computer is a 3 year old C500 Compaq with 2 gig of ram also running Windows 7 is the other one who connects to my Neo since I only have 2 laptops its just a waste of money to buy a router for a usb broadband wich cost a bit high as of now.For us to run our Computer smoothly install updates so we can take advantage of quick fix on it.Install OS from a reputable vendor. Also recomend to put Avg or any anti-virus program to your system and be cautious for those who are hooked on downloading in Limewire. There is nothing wrong choosing low cost brand of computers And there is nothing wrong also choosing a high end computers if you have the means to buy it.Practicality wise its better be smart to purchase something that will meet your needs not your wants since gadgets nowadays have no value tomorrow.
    thanks and God Bless

  324. I’ve had my Neo laptop for 3 years. It’s an Empriva 540NX2 w/ an Intel Core 2 1.66 procie, 1Gb Ram and and 80Gb hard drive. It still performs exceptionally well under constant abusive use. I recently got a broadband connection and I’m using it as a 24/7 torrent machine. It’s been on for about two weeks and its really held up well to the torture considering I don’t have an aircon in my stuffy room. Current config is almost the same with the original specs but I upgraded the hard drive to 250Gb and the OS to WIndows Vista Ultimate. Except for the noisy exhaust fan and poor battery life (a given since it’s 3 y/o already) I’ve no other complaints with my unit.

My advise to new laptop buyers is pick a laptop that more than meets your needs. Don’t settle for something adequate for now but lacking for future use. Also, if you don’t know your way around trouble-shooting simple pc problems it’s best you stick with the name brand laptops as they will have the after market support you need.

Neo is a bang for the buck brand. If you love specs but don’t want to spend a lot I recommend you give it a try but be forewarned that their tech-support/service is deemed questionable by more than a few here.

Then just yesterday, I had it reformatted. Everything went well but then, I can’t even use my laptop if its not plugged in! Every time I try to unplug it, it turns off. It doesn’t wanna work with the battery life it still has, even though its fully charged!

  329. I was the one who reformatted my laptop. Yea, the battery was working just fine before I reformatted. Does the battery have any connection to reformatting my system? Does that mean that I have to order a new battery from NEO?

Thing is, my system is working great now after I reformatted it. Better than I first purchased it. I just don’t understand what’s up with the battery.

I have to say I’m impressed that it still runs great although it is slow by today’s standards. One thing I was dissappointed at was the 2nd ram socket didn’t seat the sodimm properly so I could not insert a 2nd sodimm to use dual-channel mode.
Well, at least I didn’t have to look for any missing drivers, unlike for my brother’s acer (major pain in the @$$)

  335. To asrock:

If I were you I’d focus on the chipset rather than the processor as gaming (especially 3d graphics)demands a lot from the integrated graphics of a laptop (Ideally you’d get a laptop w/a discreet graphics card but those cost a pretty penny). I would suggest you shop around for a laptop with at least an Intel GMA 3100 chipset or preferably an Intel GMA 4500. I think I have a friend who has a Compaq laptop w/ a Celeron 2.0 but w/ GMA 4500 which she got for under P40,000. That would suffice I think. There are currently no NEO Basic laptops w/ that chipset. Hope this helps. ;D

  336. Hi. Sorry i was not able to read all of the comments above, yung nsa unang part lang, ang haba na kasi, kaya I don’t know kung nadiscuss na ‘tong itatanong ko.

I bought a Neo b2160 for 19,999 on May last year, and I haven’t experienced any serious problem until now, except on one instance when it had the Surabaya virus, which was fixed din agad by reformatting. Siguro one of the reasons was that I use it mostly for storage of files and Windows applications lang.

But recently, my friend installed a WarCraft game on the laptop and I’ve been quite hooked on the game (not online, if this is important). I noticed na madali nga siyang uminit, and sometimes bumabagal while I’m playing, tumitigil ng konti, pero so far there’s no other trouble yet. Do you think the game would cause any problem on the laptop in the long run? Do you know the limitations of this laptop? Ano yung mga hindi pwedeng applications?

Thanks so much! Will appreciate any help and pointer. :-)

    Hi Ms. Nice,
We have the same model of notebook. Right now i’ve been trying windows 7 RC version build 7100.So far it performs well than the former operating systems i have used in my 2160.Very responsive and di pa naman siya nag crash.I’ve bought mine May 2008, last year nag flicker ang screen nya kala ko sira na, then i open the LCD i found out na medyo nagalaw lang pala ung LCD cable, then i Self fixed it as of now ok pa naman.RAM nya inupgrade ko na from 512 to 1 gig.I already posted this machine here pero matagal na rin.
For your question regarding sa pag init nang notebook natural lang yun kc if your playing warcraft specially talagang tumataas ang temperature pag overworked ang CPU nya saka this model is not meant for gaming dahil celeron lang cpu and ung embedded na graphic card is mababa rin lang ang capacity nya.

I Highly recomend Windows 7 for your notebook.

    Thanks and God Bless

Thanks so much for the reply. Right now I’m using Windows XP Basic. I haven’t changed a lot and haven’t done much upgrade on the laptop since I bought it. I’m not so techie kasi, kaya ginagalaw ko lang siya pag kailangan ko talaga. I’ll try your suggestion and upgrade to Windows 7. And yeah, bibili na din ako ng cooling fan para maiwasan yung sobrang init. I’m using Avira right now, and okay nga siya. So far after nung Surabaya (I didn’t have any antivirus back then), wala na ‘kong naging problema. Thanks again for your help. :)

No Problem po.BTW if you are planning to try Windows 7 and you are not well verse on how to install drivers on your notebook better not try it.Its still on test stage not a final stage yet.Might experience a lot of problems installing and maintaining it.But if you have a tech guy to help you around go ahead. Pero Windows 7 for me as of now is an eye candy performance wise better than vista and performs like xp.

Mark ur notebook passed the requirements of windows 7 and it can perform windows 7 as well, but if you install windows 7, you will be doing a clean install meaning all of programs and files will be stored on a single folder on your hard disk named windows old, but your new OS Windows 7 RC version will not carry your old programs and files you have to install it all over again. Please note that this is a test version of windows 7 you must be ready with your installation driver disc if ever some of your driver does not work. But all in all performance of Windows 7 is very satisfying more responsive than Vista for me its better than xp.

    thanks and God Bless
