Neo Laptop Tech Support

Neo Laptops — Ely on October 3, 2007 at 7:25 pm

Neo Computers is getting some terrible online testimonials at jozzua.com. Jenylyn Sugui, a poster on the thread, even puts her comments in capital letters - as if she was shouting:

CONGRATULATIONS FOR NOT BUYING A NEO BRAND LAPTOP, otherwise, you might be encountering the same problem as I am till this day…, I REGRETTED BIG TIME… BUYING NEO CORE DUO, WHAT YOU HEARD ABOUT THEIR TECHNICAL SUPPORT IS TRUE, AND EVEN THEIR WARRANTY IS A NIGHTMARE!!!
MY MOM GOT SHOCKED WHEN SHE WAS QUOTED FOR P18K + JUST FOR THE REPAIR OF USB PORT PIN, IMAGINE, A 2 MONTH OLD, P45K LAPTOP AND A REPAIR OF P18K, THEY VOID THE WARRANTY AND CLAIMING THAT THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY FORCE OR IN THEIR TERM, “PHYSICAL DAMAGE” The “RUMORS” you heard were not RUMORS, they are true and I CAN ATTEST TO THAT,

in fact… My MOM WROTE A COMPLAINT TO THE CONSUMERS WELFARE OFFICE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY regarding this matter… and they will meet tomorrow, august 2, 2007 at the office of the Consumers Welfare Group located at the City Hall of Parañaque.

JUST A LITTLE WORD OF KINDNESS I CAN SHARE TO YOU….

“DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT BUYING A NEO LAPTOP FOR YOUR WIFE, IT WILL CERTAINLY CAUSE YOU & YOUR WIFE PROBLEM.

Despite all the tech support horror stories, Bits (who claims to be from Neo Computers) still tries to answer online customer concerns. He posts:

…for those who have posted problems here who have not been personally contacted for resolution, please contact us a 724-3636 or email us at care@neo.com.ph. Please rest assured that we are monitoring this site as it allows us to find ways to improve our service and work with customers with unresolved issues.

Many Filipinos are now discovering that tech support is also quite important. The next time you buy a laptop, make sure there is a warranty and that the tech support is very good.

Where the casio digital camera is more popular with tweenagers, professionals usually prefer canon digital cameras. However if you are a novice, the best option would be to go for the kodak digital camera.

  1. i don’t understand. how come, even after hearing all those warranty nightmares, and questionable tech support, you still end up buying a NEO?

let me guess, probably one day you decided you needed a brand new laptop. you went to store A selling a MAC! with all the bells and whistles, at a price of p150k. you went to store B selling a NEO, with the same specs but at a bargain price of p40k only! so after all the pros and cons, you decided “i think i’m going to get me a NEO!” so again why a NEO? probably because it’s CHEAP! right? am i right? am i right? if they sell you that same NEO for p150k with a full replacement guarantee will you buy it? probably not! so, i think at p110k price difference, you took the risk. now you have a problem with your laptop, which, probably is your fault. so why whine? everything has a price. you get your moneys worth! and for a laptop to be that CHEAP, i would expect them to cut corners. now you complain it with DTI. the guy probably keeps nodding his head like a jackhammer agreeing to everything you said and genuinely concerned with your problem. but right now he’s probably laughing his ass off! welcome to the philippines. are you born yesterday?

but again the problem is how you buy stuff and not the stuff itself. ofcourse the salesman will promise you the moon and the stars just for you to purchase. he’s probably on comission. but anything that good an offer is probably not good. remember “if it’s too good to be true, it’s probably not.”

so there’s no reason to whine. i say if it’s your fault then you pay for it. afterall you already saved about p110k. even at p18k repair cost, it’s still cheaper than a MAC! hell you can even throw that one away and get yourself a new one! it’s still cheaper!

  2. Believe me when I say that I do not want to support a brand that delivers services below par. However, the decision is out of my hands, since I’m not the one purchasing the laptop. >

  3. In addition, Call it blatant stubbornness, but I already warned him about NEO and my experiences with their ‘customer service’.

The point is, customer service - whether you have a cheap brand or not is something that businesses should focus on and give importance to. No one would want to transact or do business with you if you don’t value your clients.

If NEO ‘cuts corners’ as you think they do, since the price is cheap, then expect that they will get a lot of complaints from their customers. You cannot fault a customer for being frustrated with a faulty product, because it is still something that they spent for. Regardless of the cost, people still WANT RESULTS.

Do not blame people for telling it as it is - and as it should be, because NEO needs to know that one of these days, no one would bother buying laptops from them. One company that I used to work with had a bad experience with NEO and is now warning clients and partners regarding the brand. What goes around comes around. So, actually customers who give feedback is something that NEO should be thankful for.

The more important question is, after reading all these feedbacks and answering with spiel replies, is NEO going to do something about it?

  4. i admit that i bought neo laptops for the reason that their price is cheap and now i am paying the price.

their customer service really is rotten. i even wrote a complain letter to their manager but to no avail. i was able to get my laptop from them but still with problems. i wanted to write another letter to their manager but i was to lazy to do it because nothing good happens naman. right now, my other neo laptop ( yes, poor me bought another NEO laptop) is inside my bag and i only take it out when my baby wants to play with it ;)

but i still think that its no excuse that their price is cheap so should their services be.

  9. Hello.

I am also another victim of the neo BAD experience. My laptop brokedown after 1 and a half years of usage. I gave neo megamall the unit to have it looked at last Oct 8, a month has past and I still don,t have feedback from them regarding the diagnosis. Is there a way for me to report this inefficiency? I also wrote them an email that garnered zeroooo response from them. I think these guys should close shop.

  10. Yikes, now I’m really getting paranoid with my laptop. What happened to your laptop? Faulty LCD?

I was told that the NEO laptops that were manufactured last year have problems with their LCDs (or conk out after a year or so of usage).

I got to talk to a rep in one of the shops that carry NEO units and he told me that the laptops of last year are not being offered anymore and that may pinalitan na raw [hardware specs?](I wonder why)…

It seems that when something goes wrong with a NEO laptop, wala nang mangyayari. Their service ends once they sell you the laptop. You’re left to fend for yourself… >.

  13. Hi! I got a new NEO Empriva Laptop October 07, just a few months ago. It had the free version of Windows 2007 Office and I was told that I would have to have a full version installed and I did. That was around the 2nd week of October. By late November I was having problems with my NEO. It would shut down every now and I again. It was tolerable because it would start back up again, so I did not mind it much. Then one day, it shut down and would not open the windows program, so I took it for repair at a Neo service center. I got it back within 24 hours, they told me that they had to reformat it and I thought it was fine already. 2 weeks later, a new error message appeared and again my NEO would not start up. I sent it back to the service center, they checked it and I got it back after 24 hours. It worked fine for 8 hours or so. Then when I had to turn it on again, it wouldn’t and showed the same error message. I brought be it back to the service center. They had it overnight, gave it back to me and told me to observe it. This time it would turn on for just a bit. December 17, 2007 I took it back to the service center and was told that the memory may be the problem. They asked me to leave it there and that they would contact me as soon as they have news on what would be done with my NEO. It’s only been less that 48 hours but I am really worried. Its a new laptop, barely any scratches on it.:( I’m really hoping I could get it back soon, before the holidays hopefully. If it turns out that the problem was really a factory defect, then I know that I would be getting another NEO in the future, I’d would rather spring for the Mac. :( I’m hoping everything turns out OK. I’m a writer and that laptop has unofficially become my life! LOL. I’m wishing you guys all the best with your NEOs.

I wish to express my disappointment to the NEO Notebook/Laptop I bought last December 26, 2007 with Model ENDURA540SLE and a Serial Number NK540SEC7H00869. It cost P 26,999.00 and I paid it in cash with hard earned money. I thought all along NEO products has the quality that satisfies a diligent client since your advertisement was very fascinating. After a month, the laptop bogged down despite the proper use and maintenance I applied all throughout the time it was within my possession. I brought it immediately to NEO Manufacturing & Services Inc. in SM Mega Mall last February 3, 2008 but apparently, they are under renovation and have no available gadgets for repair. After which, I brought it to your service center in Shaw Blvd., 2/F 431 Cor. Ideal St., Mandaluyong City last February 4, 2008 and your technician told me that it takes 2 weeks (WOW!!!) before it can be repaired due to unavailability of materials. I clearly understand that they are just doing their job but I hope your management also understands that I needed the Laptop AS SOON AS POSSIBLE because the due date of my thesis submission will be on February 13, 2008. Honestly, I bought the above-mentioned laptop purposively for the data management of my manuscript. I’ve lost my interest/momentum to finish my Master’s Degree because the data are still in my laptop and until now I was not able to finish it since I have to lend computer from friends who have heart of lending me their personal computer on gratuity. Unfortunately, I just can’t borrow from one person to another since it is a big disturbance on their part and I am feeling inhibited anymore of asking anyone who can be of help to me. Please be mindful of the quality of your products and services. If you can’t have my Neo Laptop repaired as soon as I needed it, better replace it with a new one of the same kind or you can send me a laptop which I can borrow from your company as long as my laptop was not yet fixed. Please, I am already burned out with all the pain of doing my Thesis Manuscript and desperate on the idea that I might not be able to finish it on time despite the fact that I am one of those running to graduate this coming March with academic distinction. I hope your management is heedful and kindhearted enough to sympathize with me being one of your clients. I am looking forward to hear a positive response from your management.

  23. WAAHHHHHH!!!!

my old neo still works. its more than a year old now. battery, surprisingly not dead yet. my friend’s NEO endura wasn’t so fortunate, its totally screwed up! the monitor doesn’t work, so he sticks a desktop monitor into the port so he has a monitor. guess what, it’s been 2 years now and he still doesn’t have a replacement monitor from NEO. he can afford to buy another laptop (he’s a very successful lawyer from a big law firm) but out of principle, he sticks with the rickety NEO to serve as a reminder NEVER TO BUY A NEO AGAIN!

anyways i’m sticking to a MAC. and my life’s near heaven.

MAC users: update your softwares often, especially for Safari. it’s under attack from malwares. we all know no virus has done in a MAC system yet, but MACs are not particularly immune from malwares. so there…

  27. im not working for neo but i worked for a different computer company before. the thing happened on the bent pin in the USB connector is considered as a user inflicted damage or something like accidental damage. If your warranty doesnt cover scenarios like that, you would most likely need to pay for the repair of the said part regardless of the age of the computer. the company is not being unfair but i think they are just following the contract that you signed when you purchased the product… Dun sa mga ibang reply, ang bobo nyong lahat

  32. Guys, maaring ganun nga kapag mura ang bili maaring mura din ang balik sa atin na panahon ng paggamit, instead of trying say some ill reasons against this product dapat inisip nating mga consumers na may mga consequences lahat ng ating binibili, before you buy, look the specifications dapat 3 weeks or a month ay nagreresearch ka, try to look on a certain sites that will really hep you to choose the best laptop for you or go to the laptop center near you, ask about the products and if you choose one try to consult your friends who are laptop users also, kung di pa kayo kuntento try to research in wikipedia dun talaga malalaman if certain laptop brand is fit for your taste then you also found out kung paano, kailan, at gaano ka paraan ang products nila. I addition, ito ang nakuha kong Neo Laptop wikipedia its says; “NEO are specialized for limited purposes, they are generally much cheaper than a standard laptop computer.”

That’s all guy, all i can say to this person is kasalanan mo yan!, guys, di sa pagmamalaki, i’m a sony vaio user, before, balak ko rin bumili ng Neo laptop cheap price nga talaga, but the question is, Can this laptop fit my expectations or can this product indulge me? yun lang a certain question that hang on my mind kung di mo kaya bumili ng laptops na mataas ang halaga why don’t you try to save your money first ’till the day na makabili ka ng gusto mo or try installment bases. I’m not a rich person pero tulad ng sinabi ko ganun ang ginawa ko total my desktop pa ako noon na ginagamit. lol….

I use it for programming and gaming and it performs really well except for the intense heat and very very poor tech support, imagine I called to complain about the fan which seems not functioning and rarely runs and the tech support told me that It should be running all the time and that all laptops should, hello thats why they desinged an automatic fan so that it will only run when needed so that it won’t eat up a lot of battery. It only proves that Neo tech support doesn’t have a clue about their own product.

anyways does anyone here knows how to configure the Neo’s fan so that it would run the whole time while the notebook is on?

Well siguro nga dahil mura sya… Pero ano gagawin mo kung yun lang kaya ng pera mo? my husband bought the laptop early last year kaso after mga 8 mos eh nasira sya… So sakop pa sya ng warranty. Nagawa sya pero 6 mos after the repair, sira na naman so di na sakop ng warranty. And they are asking for 14K for the repair. What are the chances na magawa sya ng libre uli knowing na karerepair lang tapos di man lang tumagal? And the fact pa na sobra alaga ko yung laptop na yun. Parang napaka imposible na di sya tumagal. 1 yr and 4 mos ko pa lang nagamit minus the repair time na umaabot ng buwan.

  39. I bought a neo laptop last december. A friend of mine told me that it’s good, so I decided to get 1. Imman comments were right the battery lasts only for 30 minutes-1 hour. One of the main use of a laptop is for us to use a pc even outside coz it’s handy but it doesn’t make sense if the battery lasts only for 30 minutes to an hour. Most of the time it freezes, and I don’t have any option left but to remove the battery because even CTRL ALT DEL and pressing the power button won’t do. I bought it for 39k, and I’m expecting a better performance in exchange of the amount, I know that was not the most expensive laptop but as a consumer I know I should have a better performing laptop, but I’m not getting what I expected. I remember, when I first got the unit it didn’t turn on, so I went back to the store and they changed only the battery, they did not changed the unit, the 2nd time I realized that the power lasts only for 30 minutes to an hour so I brought it back to the store and they changed it. It didn’t help because it’s still performing poorly. I was a tech support so at least I know how PC should work, I know this one doesn’t work well.

  40. I have a NEO Empriva 572 SVBX black.

Eto mga problems ko sa laptop na ito:

-Vista Basic running on “1″ gig of RAM

-I WILL DOWNGRADE THIS TO AN XP. GIVEN ITS SPECS IT WILL PERFORM EXCEEDINGLY SA XP.

-MAGHAHANAP AKO NG USB ELECTRICFAN O LAPTOP COOLER.

-BIBILI AKO NG SPRAYPAINT NA PUTI PARA BABUYIN SHA PARA DI SHA MAINIT SA MATA. LIKOD LNG NG LCD SPRAYAN KO WAKOKOKOK (JOKE PO ITO)

BALE YUN..YUN ANG COMMENT KO SA LAPTOP KONG DI NA NALABAS NG BAHAY.

  42. I AGREE 100%

I bought my laptop NEO Emprevia NVP2 Core2 Duo 1GB (DAW!) 512 lang pala

It was 11 months old and one day I charged it and it got so hot for only 2 hours of charging the socket melted and the charger got stuck and cannot be removed.

SO the next day I repaired it at Neo Megamall

It was nice after 1 week it was repaired, I said at least they replied or called me.

Then I was in a hurry to get my laptop cause I have to go to a event I just stuck my time a little to get the laptop.

It was repaired I looked at it and (@#!@#YT^%@&#^%!@*#&!@#) THere are tons of bumps and scratches all over the laptop. The manager was so confused and baffled he even said that was not there before. THe laptop was a TOTAL WRECK!!!

So I replied with ANGER that they to fix it immediately, they said that it will take months due to the investigation. I said to the manager to give me a testimonial letter proof that I did not do anything to the laptop resulting to it’s condition. And he agreed to my demands and he said I should go to the Main Repair center at Shaw Bulevard, It was only 2-3 kilometers away from SM megamall.

When I got there the repair man was so confused and said to me privately that it ALWAYS HAPPEN!!! 2-10 repairs there is always an return damage. I said to my self (@#*@# ” ARE YOU A GOOD COMPANY? $#*$@)

So I replied at a tone of voice to repair it ASAP, he said that he can do it at 1 hour but I arrived at 5pm which is closing time so I returned the next day and got it. With just 3 weeks warranty I got my laptop with brand new casing glass and whole body replacement. At the end it was ok.

But 1 month after another BAD BAD BAD happened, the speaker was not working on the right ALL ALONG!!! I could not notice to the VERY WEAK speakers, PLUS THE BATTERY IS DRAINED in just 1 YEAR!!!!! OMG the WORST LAPTOP EVER!!!! so I can only use this crap at connecting it at a plug SO MUCH FOR LAPTOP MOBILITY!!!. Until now I can’t even bring it to the repair center cause I’m so busy.

TO ALL NEVER BUY NEO LAPTOPS!!!!!!!

  43. Just bought a NEO Q-note, yep the latest model according to the salesrep at mega mall, yesterday. This laptop - a POS and it STINKS! It has a bios bug. When pressing F2 for system settings, right after NEO splash, it hangs. The WGA screen has a defect there are dead pixels at the lower portion of the screen after installing linux. Today, am bringing this back to the mall. I hope they’ll give a replacement.

Would be buyers of this brand - give it a long and thorough consideration.

  44. If I had money, I wouldn’t end up with a NEO. I bought the cheapest laptop around, about 21K. The fan sounds like sex with a vacuum cleaner and it’s not doing its job well. It still heats up. I’m also one of the victims of NEO’s rotten services. The first time it bogged down, it took 3 weeks to repair the unit. Then after a couple of months, it bogged down again. it has been a month until now and I think it would take another 2 weeks or more. Because I’m a student and I badly need a computer, my mom bought me a 3K desktop.
    Nagmakaawa pa ako nun.

  45. NEO must make laptop for the kids if they cannot improve quality and reliability, like VTECH learning laptops for children, so that when they break down, the effects would not be felt. Kids are just playing. Professionals that rely on their laptop so much are adversely affected. They should name it NEO Aspilets and Kidilets instead of Endura. That Endura name is ironic

  50. I’m starting to believe the nightmare brought by Neo laptop. I bought one V2120 last July 20 this year. Since then, my cd drive didn’t work. I reported that already in their Tech Support in Megamall but they only replaced the cd. Hello, my problem is the cd drive and not the cd. It worked naman but when I got home, I try another cd and sira na naman. Now, I calling their Tech Support again. Following up the replace of cd drive itself na. Almost one week and they never returned any call. Laging kailangan sila pa ang tawagan. Alibis, can somebody tell me who and where is the main distributor ng Neo here in the Philippines. Doon na ako magrereklamo. I’m not angry, got frustrated lang. Thanks (^o^)

  51. Hi guys,

I can see problems here, clearly enough. . .
I’m from Baguio, and never had experience on Tech Support (wala ata dito eh, dunno)
but, all i can say, i have a NEO VIVID series, black chrome finsh, Vist Basic ung OS, 1GB specs, hehe, its been a thrill ride for me though

dunno with you guys, i keep my notebook clean and cool (xempre Baguio, duh!), and i bought a laptop cooler, (Php 1500, decent, very decent, sturdy base, double fan, swivel ase, haha, u name it), and im using it as a desktop replacement, 3 months on the go, and im sure its safe to say it will last with me for a while, a LOT of “whiles” to come,

Dudes! update nyo kasi lagi drivers and software nyo, and buy a mouse, decent conections, extended USB ports, a brush and a lot of wiping tools and fluids, screen guard, dust guard, just buy THE HECK, haha, yah, THE heck

dont rely too much on the laptop itself, YES is cheap! hell yeah, got it at Php30000, but DO YOUR PART, research on laptop maintenance, coz if its cheap, its a cry baby. . .

and yah, tip ko: when plugged, remove battery (charged na dapat), it keeps your battery life at optimum level, 7 years if im not mistaken

though, i expect a lt to be angry at this inconsistenet post, sa mga EMPRIVA OWNERS, your out of luck, trust me, you are, buy a MAC (sabi nila un ah), kasi experimental stage ang batch production nyan, and the early series of
    endura,

SA MGA BIBILI NG CHEAP NEO! BUY VIVID, I ASSURE ITS PERFORMANCE, hugas lang ng kamay bago gamit

Good thing it has a 1 year warranty, we can still check for better laptops to swap it just in case it will show any signs of malfunctioning and super-imposed substandards:)hehehe

  62. as for your battery kishie, it’s cheap so don’t expect too much from it. complaining won’t do you any good. if something like that bothers me, id research. find a better replacement if there’s one available. or just get myself spare crappy batteries. or plug the power supply as much as possible and use battery only outdoors. my ipod died right after warranty expired. and it’s damn expensive and all it needs to do is play videos and music. my brother’s macbook crashed in less than a year’s time. basically, it doesn’t matter… these things aren’t perfect.

I wish to buy the latest model of Neo laptops worth 23T,but when I read all of the posted comments.I think I would prefer to buy desktop computers instead.I believe that most laptops heat so fast due to the battery installed to the unit and due to the hot weather here in Manila.I would not compromise my hard earned money for things that won’t last.My motto is “better to buy branded items(original) rather than take the risks of buying cheaper items that you will regret later”.

  68. well, on my experience, neo was not that bad, lagpas 3yrs na laptop ko, RAM memory lang upgrade ko, still ok pa rin sya.. for the past 3yrs, almost everyday ko pa sya ginamagit, computer and net freak kasi ako.. hehe.. and now, nag work na ako, ginagamit ko pa rin sya, pero now, yung battery and dvd drive ko, mejo nag fade na… pero overall, ok neo sakin.. ang pangit nga lang like you said is yung tech support nila, i can say GAHAMAN talaga, gusto kumita, yung RAM memory ko, ako na lang nagupgrade non, buy ko sya for 1.7K, 1 GIG or memory, kasi nung nagtanong ako sa tech support nila sa Mega Mall, 4k sinisingil sakin, laki difference diba? eh parang tape lang naman yon na sinasalpak sa likod… well, hassle talaga pagkalikot ng laptops and desktops, lalo na for girls and dun sa untrained for that kind of stuff, pero maganda din if we have a little background in this kind of things, parang practical na din…

TIP: before you plan to something which involves buying, upgrading or swapping of techi things, do a little research on Google, just ask Mr. Google and he will always have an answer.. hehe.. works for me..

  69. and a side note, most neo laptops have batteries that last for 2 to 3hrs with 100% cpu running, depende sa gamit… i don’t know about neo’s corporate laptops, pero most of their laptops, ganun talaga.. if you want laptops for traveling, and battery lasts long, try to buy laptops which are small and compact, smaller screens means longer power.. laptops are designed for simple basic routines, desktop on the other hand are designed for endurance routines like gaming..

i agree all of you people, nothing is perfect what matters is our attitude towards it.
i respect all your opinions because i believe everybody has the right to express his/her ideas.
i admire you guys for being true and honest with your feelings! i also admire you spoon for being so innovative.
i also have an experience with neo which i would like to share, yes its true for me, that neo is quite poor in performance wise but very economical in its cost. i been using my laptop for almost two years and only now i experienced a problem. the keyboard’s key for ?/ and shift keys wont function anymore.
my problem is, there is no neo service center in my present address and shop that sells neo laptop parts. i tried to call their customer support hotline but sad to say nobody s answering the phone
if you guys have any idea on a website where i can buy neo keyboard for model M3S….pls do share…
i am also open for a well functioning second hand neo M3S keyboard..
you can reach me with this number 09189142344 or email me at diorygiemt@yahoo.com

  71. Hmmm, for those who’ve been saying that people who purchase Neo have no right to complain and are stupid for complaining, well…shame on you then..it is actually an obligation for a company to produce products that are not of low quality..selling a cheap product doesn’t give the company the right or the excuse to have sucky customer service or defective hardware..

it has come to my attention though, that most problems are that the batteries drain and like, die after a few minutes..and some hardware don’t work properly and there are frequent system hang-ups..well..i’ve never owned a neo laptop (and probably wont after reading this), but i think maybe, well sometimes there’s a problem with the care or use of the product..

like well, for example, the batteries draining after like only months after purchase..one cause for that is well, not properly charging the laptop..charging even before the batteries run low, or pulling out the charger even before the batteries are full can cause your battery’s life to run low.

and the hardware not working properly?(like speakers not working, image distorts once in a while, no internet access) my guess is that some drivers weren’t installed properly or weren’t installed at all..i don’t know about xp but vista (im hoping your vista is original ^^) has this feature in its update which allows you to download missing drivers from your laptop..but you can also just google your laptop’s drivers and download ‘em.

and about the system hanging or restarting..you’ve probably strained your RAM..its like installing vista onto a 512mb RAM laptop..or you probably have a lot of applications running and the system, trying to protect itself from further damage, restarts..check your taskbar..if it has a lot of icons there, it means you’re running a lot of programs in the background, or you just have a lot of startup programs..if you have tuneup utilities, disable those you dont need, or if you don’t just run msconfig to disable them..

or your computer probably has a virus or malware infecting it, causing your laptop to crash or something..there are a lot of possible causes to your problems..

but as to the part where neo having a lot of factory defects or the like, well, neo has the obligation to correct them..and if they’re offering customer service, they should serve their customers..coz in the long run, people will know better and will stop buying from them..

    *sigh*

  73. well i have this neo laptop that PLDT DSL was able to foist on my wife as a “hulugan” unit at a cheap price at the same time we got our DSL line.

Yep!!! everything about unit sucks big time.
Evrything about tech support from neo sucks big time!!!

and i have been spreading the word.
I just use the unit as a training presentation device. You know, it sits there in front of the training room… linked to a projector. People inserts usb devices to load powerpoint slides…They click on the mouse…

The neo finds it difficult to connect to the projectors… the USB devices… the printers…it hangs several times a day. and then boots up ever so slowly each time. But it heats up ever so fast. After every presentation. i pick the unit up, (contemplates flinging it against the wall…) then brings it in front of the aircon unit to cool it down. ( i also bring my head in front of the aircon vent to cool it down.)

Hahahaha… that’s what i am doing now flaming this stupid device that i own to vent my disattisfaction and cool down my head .

i bout it for around 40K and it’s not even worth a cent!
i had a problem with my CD ROM Drive, under warranty, so i gave it to them for check up.. then suddenly they told me that i have to pay another 20K for the motherboard and the keyboard doesn’t work anymore! i checked it out myself and there is nothing wrong with the keyboard, nor is there a problem with my motherboard!

  77. i finally brought my neo laptop to their mega mall customer dis-service. it started showing problem with the monitor a few days after i bought it. unfortuntely i use it everyday for my work (no work, no pay) but 3 months later the problem had become so bad ala na ako choice.

i was told factory defect daw yung video cable or something like that. kaso di naman masabi kung kelan pwede makuha. basta minimum of 7 working days. so pwede rin abutin ng 7 years.

i admit i bought neo because cheap sya. pero hindi porke cheap eh automatically inferior na (in the same way na di dahil mahal ay high quality)

besides neo should advertise na cheap ang laptop nila dahil inferior ang quality. kung nilinaw nila yun eh di sana nag tyaga ako mag ipon ng kaunti pa para bumili ng mas mahal pero dependable na brand.

so far i lost P7,000 dahil seven days na ako wala trabaho. kung abutin ito ng 2 weeks bale P14,000 na mawawala sa akin. that’s more than the “savings” i got from buying the cheap neo laptop.

and to ol lappy users (actually for every1 including desktops users): it is true that the state of laptops depends a lot on how it is used and taking care of..not only physically..users must know how to use their sofwares installed properly and try to stay away from unknown sites..for these could damage your computer.. not unless the fault is really in the quality and unsustainability of the product..that is not good..although there are remedies..
well anyway gudluck to ol the concerned neos and gudlak to me..^^

  86. well.. on my case, i bought my 1st laptop last april 2005 and it’s a neo laptop! well, surprisingly it still functions until now but the down side of that are 1st, the LCD has lines; 2nd, some of the keys of the keyboard are not functioning anymore (so i had to use an external keyboard because the repair of the keys costs P7k up); and 3rd, the DC input is loose and that i had to turn the socket of the charger to make it work. Plus, the original charger was damaged about after a year and a half of use. since it is still functioning upto this day, i just gave it to my lil sister to play games because well i think that’s the only function of a neo laptop so i decided to buy a new one and i chose a macbook and until this day i don’t regret buying it. it’s worth it because aside from great package, their technical support was really good and another thing is that i never had a virus in it and that i will never pass a virus to my friends using a windows pc/laptop. So if i were you guys, choose what you think is the best. Even if it is a little bit expensive, think of the long-term effect and benefits. Cost vs. benefit! Also, if you are really on a tight budget, there are cheaper laptops available in the market but make sure that what you are buying is tested and proven to be a great brand i.e. compaq, hp, lenovo/ibm and msi too!

  87. I’ve encountered two Neos, one belonging to my Mom and another one a friend’s. They both have the same problem in less than a year. LCD. The screen garbles and becomes completely unusable. Do not be tempted by the very cheap price. It’s not worth the disappointment and hassle.

  89. I bought my Neo laptop about a year ago and it still works well. The only thing that I don’t like about it is that unlike more popular brands like Lenovo or HP, it doesn’t have a control for fan sound level. Good thing Vista (the OS that came with it) seems to automatically lower the fan speed when not needed (when in an airconditioned room for example).

I’d say that I got what I paid for. And it’s all worth it. It’s around 25% cheaper than other brands with the same specs. And for the same price, it has significantly higher specs. It works well. No hardware issues, whatsoever.

Unlike popular brands it came with Windows Vista OEM installer (which quite frankly we should be entitled to have even though it’s OEM), driver dvds for both XP and Vista (32-bit and 64-bit). With other brands you still have to request (sometimes online) for your OS installer dvd and though free, you end up paying for shipping and handling. In this regard, Neo is more attuned to the Philippine situation where people who buy laptops don’t necessarily have a personal internet subscription (I know a lot of people, co-workers and friends who are in this situation).

We never seemed to have issues with “cloned” or “unbranded” desktops before. Why all of a sudden we seem to favor “branded” ones when it comes to laptop? My old “clone” desktop (bought in 2001) never once had to be serviced by tech support. The same is true with my Neo laptop.

For every fancy feature of “branded” laptops you’re actually paying more. If they are important to you then pay for it and buy the more popular ones. If not then buy cheap and take good care of it.

I believe it all boils down to usage and operating conditions. I know a tech support guy who works for a large multinational company who issues different brand laptops to different members of management, and at that time that I asked, the laptop brand that gave them the least headache was Fujitsu (it’s not the popular brands like HP, Dell, IBM, Toshiba, or Acer). But even then, to quote my tech support friend, “You drop them and they’ll break regardless of brand.”

  90. I bought my NeoBasic B2140N last June and so far the unit has been working fine. I bought a cooling mat to addressed the heat issue. But as for the battery, well, it is now DEAD!!!

I almost always use it using an ac adapter so I really have no qualms about the battery going dead. The thing is, I’m still within the 6 months warranty given for the battery, so maybe I can get it repaired/replaced soon.

I only bought a Neo by the way because it is cheap while offering some decent specs. I can see the pros and cons of buying cheap products, but the bottom-line is: each product is designed and expected to perform the way it is supposed to do. So, for as long as the complain is legitimate, it’s quite rude and downright stupidity for anybody to say that one is a fool for buying a cheap product and expecting it work. If they don’t, then, we have all the right to complain about it. Right? So why make a big deal about people complaining? It’s their right!!!

    Comment by neouser — November 19, 2008 @ 7:25 pm
  91. obviously a lot of people here think that consumer rights apply only to those who paid a lot of money for something. actually yung argument “na gusto mo maka mura kaya pasensya ka” is valid only under the following conditions:

    1. you knowingly bought a fake product kasi gusto mo maka mura
    2. you bought a second hand product kasi gusto mo makamura pero di mo check kung ayus yung binili mo before you bought it
    3. you bought an inexpensive product (like the neobasic b214on)kasi gusto mo maka mura then you complain that the product is not comparable to hi-end laptops that cost 3x as much

but this in not true in my case or in the cases of many consumers here who bought neo products. which is why we have every right to complain.

yung neo b2140n ko na may factory defect naayos after 9 working days but now nag loloko na naman. i also bought it last june and under warranty pa.

but based on my experience di ko na ibabalik sa neo. pagod lang at bwisit ang aabutin ko. hayaan ko na masira kahit pa less than a year ko lang sya magamit.i am saving up for a more reliable brand. but i have made it my mission in life to discourage any one from buying neo products. dun na lang ako babawi.

  97. i have a friend who owns a NEO Empriva just like mine, a line appeared on his lcd monitor, we brought it to megamall, after diagnosing it and determined that it was not due to carelessness they had us leave the unit to them to replace the monitor and in a week time we got it back with the new lcd. maybe some of those who are postings are not really telling the whole story. some of the stories here are somewhat funny and some are outight ridiculous and stupid. bought a laptop to play games with? and complain when it breaksdown? they should have bought gameboy or ps or psp or desk top or just buy a ball go outside and play outdoors itll be good for them.
some says theirs hangs up well its not the laptop its the user, its in the files they keep on accumulating there, the viruses and worms that creeped in because they never care to install a good antivirus sw, or just like a driver who only care to drive and never care for the maintenance of the car, never checks the water and when the engine overheats they rant and whine.buyers/consumers also have the responsibility to care for what they have bought, read the manuals before using as they said, even in buying a top of the line unit, they also say take good care to serve you well. nuff said, thats my two cents take it or leave it no need to respond.thank you.

  101. last monday being a holiday i was at the staffhouse of the company i was temporarily working on at the moment, since theres no tv or radio, or anything to while away the whole holiday, i decided to play music in my neo empriva laptop. i have a external hard disc where i store my files so that the laptop is not so burdened, it was 9am, i kept it playing till early evening,as i remember those posts here about hot keyboard or heating i constantly tried to feel the keyboard for heat, there was the normal temperature not excessive/ overheating. then in the late hours i watched a stored dvd movie on it, after about 30 minutes of watching there was blackout in that place but i still let the laptop continue playing, anyways the maintenance manual says that i have to fully discharge the battery periodically (”i suspect that some of you have just read that for the first time” that its part of how to take good care of the battery.)i had already finished the two hour movie yet still the battery was not fully discharged. i had to kept it turned on to drain the batt when i went to sleep… it was already 10 past 2 am… thats 17hrs, no overheating, battery? more than 1 and a half hours. thats my neo empriva 540nvp2i, model M54N product code m541n serial # NKM541NC7J00982.

  104. To all those people that are looking forward to purchasing a laptop, please pick a brand other than Neo. Their products may come promising at first, and a few people will testify to how their neo laptops withstood through out the years of use, but believe me, your better off with a laptop that costs more than neo laptops.

Last year my father gave me money to buy a laptop, it was his birthday present for me. I was excited and although I do possess a little know how on hardware specifications and knowing what type of laptop I want, I still invited my friends to help me pick out the right laptop. My Best friend owns an Acer Aspire laptop and he’s been using it for quite sometime then and he advised me into considering an Acer laptop as well. Now Acer hardware or any other hardware with very well known name for that matter costs a lot and with me stuck on the budget I was given, was forced to look for more options. Then I came along a Neo Shop, I was suprised to find that their laptop was 11k cheaper than Acer’s with the same specification. I was then sweet talked on how their laptop has this and has that (vista really looked good that time). All of my friends rejected the laptop telling me that they’ve never heard of Neo before (and how it’s made in China, actually taiwan) now I had to make up my mind. It’s either I don’t buy it, my dad would probably change his mind about the laptop then, or Buy it and hope that proper use and maintainance could prove my friend wrong. I admit, that was a stupid decision, but who would’ve known. So right after I got home, I handled the newly bought laptop very very carefully, even clearing out the whole study desk just for my new laptop, after booting it up and leaving it on for a moment to gaze at my new hardware, IT FREEZES, now that’s just my luck, I thought it’s like a first time operation issue, but just as I was about to explore Windows Vista, It freezes again, now that really indicated something was wrong. Yes I know it’s under warranty, but this is the problem, I’m no where near Manila, so getting back is going to take sometime. So I started troubleshooting, process of elimination. Then I came to a conclusion, everytime the laptop is plugged in, it crashes after booting OS, okay so let’s use it on battery power, so that’s how it went. Charging, Using, Fully discharge then Charge to full again. It’s hard working with the laptop when you know your under a time limit of the battery. Moment arrive, school is on sembreak, I got to their service center in Megamall and had the laptop checked, I stated the problem to one of the techies who has no idea on what could have caused the routine freeze up. I was advised to leave it there for 2 to 3 days so they can work on it. Alright so I went home, leaving the laptop for 3 days ain’t a problem. Day came for me to pick up the laptop, I got there, was presented with my hardware, and yes okay there’s no memory problem (yeah I’ve checked with the memory tool so I know), the hard disk is fing ( uhm Duhh) and was told this “Okay na po sir” hmm, so I took their word for it and it was getting late so I had to catch a bus home. Now when I got home and plugged it in, the problem still persists, and much worst, the behavior is much more eratic, a freeze on AC power, a momentary lag on Battery. Now that’s really convenient of them to really be thorough cause when I checked the air vent on the side, I expected it to be clean with signs that they did look inside and did what they could. I had enough of their incompetent service, from useless techsupport, to their customer support and their non-systematic way of organization. they must have really ripped off a lot of people cause during the time I brought my laptop in for servicing, there was like some odd 5 people waiting near the service window and another 8 waiting in line. Now, I have again tried to troubleshoot the laptop and now i do know the problem, but the thing is, even though I’d like to crack it open and start pulling PCBs apart, I don’t want to void warranty. (Funny eh, since the warranty is kinda useless). Now with that story just out of my system, please… Do yourself a favor, and just save up for a costly but surely reliable laptop brand.
To all the Tech Guys there at Neo, and even to Neo Management, staff, or whatever you are in Neo, I don’t aim to throw grudges here or anything, I’m just one of your customers who’s unsatisfied in your product and services.

i cannot say this enough to all of you people reading this thinking of buying a neo product: YOU ARE SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR MEGA DISAPPOINTMENT AND STOMACH-DISSOLVING FRUSTRATION. YUNG MATITIPID NYO SA NEO IS NOT WORTH IT. IN MY CASE THE P1Ok NA NASA SAVE KO NAWALA DIN FROM LOST PRODUCTIVITY WHILE MY FACTORY DEFECTIVE NEO WAS BEING FIXED. 107. I already have 3 Neo Laptops, the oldest i bought in 2006. burned 200 dvds straight on it and wrecked the drive. neo replaced it. i gave this to my wife. i just bought an xplore
    for my son this christmas.

the one im using now has all sorts of programs for my line of work adobe cs3 master suite et al. i used it for two commercials you see on tv right now.

so far either ive been lucky or ive been using it right or both. i dont use it to try new programs out… ive got a desktop for this purpose. im very careful with network and disk usage. and ive never had to visit neo care apart from my dvd issue.

but i admit the only reason why i like neo is the price. kinda like buying a really old benz…. you know you might be getting a lemon, but if you know how to use and maintain correctly you might just get a really good deal.

  108. i’ve been using a neo laptop (old model) for about 2 years na. yep, i agree dun sa nagsasabi na mabilis uminit (kaya lagi akong gumagamit ng electric fan hehehe) tska maikli ang batt life (bet.

I always use it everyday for at least more than 10 hours straight…on weekends, almost 16 hours..I must admit i only use it for surfing the net and chatting since i also have pc at home. i think it has been established that the quality of neo products is very spotty. if you’re lucky you might get a good, trouble-free unit.

if you’re unlucky (like so many of us) you could end up with a crappy unit and then you have to deal with neo’s really crappy after sales service.

so you can buy another brand from a company is more consistent with their quality control or consult mo muna horoscope mo bago ka bili ng neo :=)

Premium logic from sm north cyberzone says it’s because of the processes that i use.

then our warranty has already ended then something happened at my gf’s laptop: her mouse pad stopped.

She’ll bring her laptop tomorrow, and maybe she have to shout (after telling bout this comment page and sa dami ng gagawin nya), baka mamaya mahal parepair sa sira ng laptop mouse. Physically mas maingat pa siya sa akin on handling laptop. Note that around two months ago her battery drained.
And mas mabagal ang processes ng laptop nya though same lang ang laptop namin.

I must say, I am pleased with my Neo, same as yours. Battery has no problems, but maybe that is because I use it a lot. Only issue I have noticed is that the screen changes resolution sometimes and then flicks back. Annouying but no real issue so far.

Pasalamat kayo meron tayong sariling brand.

I will admit that I am anti-neo and in my previous posts I said that I have made it my mission in life to discourage people from buying neo products. Why? My sentiment is based on my horrific experience with the company and their product. It is an experience I don’t want anybody to go through (well, except you, lol!)

I bought a brand new neo laptop with a factory defective video cable that affected my work. It took the company 9 working days to fix (a total of 13 days counting the two weekends) when every computer technician I consulted (six technicians all in all) told me that it only takes several minutes to replace the factory defective cable.

I am a freelance writer and my laptop is an integral part of my livelihood I make an average of P1,000 a day and I work six days a week. If you do the math you’d know that I lost approximately P11,000 while neo service center people were taking their sweet time fixing my factory defective neo laptop.

In fairness to neo the video cable is holding just fine. But 2 months after the repair my neo laptop has failed to boot up on three occasions and I have this gut feeling that this problem is going to get worse and I will soon find myself at the mercy of neo technicians once again. After all, the problem with the factory-defective video cable started out the same way. The first few weeks I experienced insignificant screen distortion which eventually progressed to such a degree that the unit was no longer useable.

So there! That’s the root of my crusade. If somebody did the same thing to me when I was shopping around for a laptop I wouldn’t be here now.

(By the way yes I only use genuine software and yes I take very good care of my machine because I can’t afford to buy a new laptop every year. no games installed not even solitaire)

Whether people take my advice or not is up to them (for the record I have succeeded in convincing seven fellow writers shopping for a laptop to avoid neo products like the plague). But if people decide to buy a neo laptop anyway that is fine with me. It’s their money it’s their life.

I certainly won’t call them morons if they chose to purchase a neo product after all (but I will savor the chance to tell them “I told you so!” lol!)

So what’s your excuse for your rudeness? Why do you care so much if some of us tell as many people as we possibly can that neo sucks big time? What’s in it for you? Is it misplaced patriotism? Or do you just like the company so much you decided to take up the cudgels for them? For free? This is definitely one of those things that make you go hmmmmm…

If you want to salvage the reputation of your company, ridiculing consumers with bad experience with your company’s products/service is not going to do it. Tell your bosses that they need to implement stricter quality control and better after sales service. With the prices of laptops dropping every six months neo will no longer be able to compete on the basis of its price for long.

Unless it changes its business model, all laptops will be affordable – but neo will still be the “cheap” brand.

  128. @ ryan ladera…

kailan ba naging “colonial mentality” ang pagpapahayag ng isang tao ng kanyang masamang karanasan tungkol sa isang produkto? I think what’s wrong with people trying to be “nationalist” is their misplace notion of what nationalism is, and as result they end up lambasting others who are genuinely expressing the poor standard of certain products. There is no question that many Filipino companies produced good and high quality products and we should be proud of them. But to say that some of our countryman have “colonial mentality” just because they are pointing out what’s wrong with a particular product and why we should not patronize it is crazy. Do you mean to say that just because a product is made in the Philippines we have to patronize it even if it doesn’t work for us? There’s nothing wrong in pointing out what’s wrong with this or that product. Colonial mentality kamo? I have heard many Americans and Brits complaining and even cursing their own companies that are providing poor services and shabby products. Does that mean that they are unpatriotic or have some kind of “un-whatever kind of mentality”? Think and ponder bro. We are no longer in Middle Ages. We will never help our own industries to be at par with those of the rest of the world if we hold on to skewed concepts of what a “national pride” should be. The way to do it is let those companies that produce shabby products see their own big blunders and let them correct it. If they don’t do that, they don’t deserve our support. Money is hard to come by, and so people should get their money’s worth. And oh…”Pweh!!!kung hindi kayo bibili wag na kayong mandamay…kung hinde dahil sa neo baka ang presyo ng laptop ay napakamahal…Pasalamat kayo meron tayong sariling brand.” Are you saying that people should shut up over a shabby product for the sake of a false sense of nationalism or national pride? Give us a break! That’s not moving forward. That’s DIGGING A GRAVE!

Not to defend anyone or Neo, but not all can write as good as a freelance writer such as yourself. (kitam unang sentence pa lang sablay na ako). If you take a look at all the posts not everyone who has ever bought a neo laptop is as dissatisfied as you are. And if you can read as good as you write, ryan has a point and his “rudeness” doesn’t really come from nowhere.

It is in forums such as this where eloquence can over-rule fact and logic. Here, the person who gets his point across faster and clearer can convince more to his side as opposed to a rude-tagalog-cursing post who barely gets his message across. Not everyone has this gift.

The validity of ryan’s post lies in the fact that because of our desire to compete with or at least match our western counterparts we forget who and where we are. Filipino tayo at nasa Pilipinas tayo, times are hard. To get a cheap laptop some sacrifices have to be made and subsequent adjustments rendered. Kelangan ng konting abilidad. We are slowly being affected by the US crisis and companies are being shut down.

No ones stopping you from getting your MAC or your branded toy. Because I dont think you have the ability and the know how to maximize your Neo. So go ahead buy whatever it is that would satisfy you. But take your 1k-a-day-self-righteous-anti-neo-crusade and shove it up your ass.

Yung buhay at ugali mo nakakahon: Pag may sugat aray, iyak, ganti. Pag may problema dalhin sa kalsada at magrally. You should’ve taken your time to learn a bit more on how laptops and os’s work instead of wasting your time ranting and crusading for a company to fall and leave people jobless in your success.

Got TV and radio commercials running on nationwide media all produced entirely on my NEO laptops. Plus, I hooked up my electric guitar to my neo so i can use it when i perform live with my band. Neo gave me access to much needed gear at a time when i couldnt afford the high prices of branded laptops. So me and my family are enjoying the earnings, not to mention the savings, generated from these neo’s while you go on your crusade. Best of luck to you. Cheers.

“neo gave me access to much needed gear at a time when i couldn’t afford the high prices of branded laptops.”

so what you’re saying is you switched to high priced branded laptops once you could afford them? why is that?

me? am not interested in getting a mac (no i dont have an iphone or an ipod, either) or an vaiao (i don’t even know how spell it) for the sake of getting an imported brand.

i just want a good laptop (kahit na made in pluto pa yan). and if my laptop breaks down i want the company that made that laptop to make an effort to take care of their customers instead of adding to the aggravation.

“you should’ve taken your time to learn a bit more on how laptops and os’s work instead of wasting your time ranting and crusading for a company to fall and leave people jobless in your success.”

my laptop unit had a factory defective part. they told me that when i went to the service center at mega mall (actually there was another guy with the same unit and the same problem) it was factory defective. i had nothing to do with that. it was broken before i even used it (although it took a while before the problem showed up). it was broken when i bought it. it was broken when neo shipped it to the store where i bought it.

kahit may phd pa ako on how to operae a laptop do you think that would made any difference? of course not.

but i will tell what could have made a big difference. the company knew that the first batch of the particular model that i bought had defective video cables and they did nothing but wait for people to show up at their doorstep and then made us wait 9 working days.

they could have asked their marketing people to account for all the defective units they sold. then they could have ordered all the replacement spare part ahead of time. then they could have assigned a person to prioritize fixing this particular problem.

then those of us affected by this problem wouldn’t have to wait 9 working days to get the unit fixed. neo had the chance to turn a problem into an opportunity for customer relations

if neo did that and i waited like only for an hour or even a day or two to get my unit fixed i would have been very impressed! and despite the fact that i got a defective unit i would still tell people to go buy a neo because they take care of their customers. well, they didn’t and they don’t. so why should i care for them?

their staff acted as if i was an idiot(kinda like the way you are treating me)who has never seen a laptop before or that i take the laptop in the shower with me or that i make sure i drop my laptop on the floor at least once a day.

basically they told me na magtiis ka, maghintay ka. you will get your unit when you get your unit. your downtime is not our problem.

“the validity of ryan’s post lies in the fact that because of our desire to compete with or at least match our western counterparts we forget who and where we are. filipino tayo at nasa pilipinas tayo, times are hard.”

what does this man exactly? that we filipinos are not entitled to high quality products because we live in a third world country?

“to get a cheap laptop some sacrifices have to be made and subsequent adjustments rendered.”

so basically you are saying that cheap laptops (whether its neo or whatever brand) have inherently inferior quality. that’s fine except when i was at the store and i asked the sales person if neo was a good, dependable product he said yes. and may be i was stupid for taking his word for it (and the copy on neo’s brochure and website) but if someone talked me out of buying a neo i wouldn’t be here now ranting and raving.

“but take your 1k-a-day-self-righteous-anti-neo-crusade and shove it up your ass.”

excuse me? self-righteous? i have bills to pay (electricity, water, internet, etc) and i have medicines to buy (not just mine but also my mom’s) and the money that i use to pay for these things come from the money i earn as a writer. it is barely enough to make ends meet.

unlike you i don’t have “tv and radio commercials running on nationwide media all produced entirely on my neo laptops” if my neo laptop fails through no fault of mine i go hungry - that gives me the right to bitch don’t you think?

and i am gon a crusade because all my friends work for a pittance. none of them have “tv and radio commercials running on nationwide media all produced entirely on my neo laptops” they are counting every centavo they have and spending it on neo, in my opinion, is wasting their money.

okay fine i will admit my tactic is not constructive. but that’s because i’m angry. and i’m angry because i got the short end of the stick here. but if you experienced what i experienced i guarantee that you wouldn’t be wherever the hell you are telling those of us with legitimate issues with neo to shove our opinions up our asses.

“neo gave me access to much needed gear at a time when i couldn’t afford the high prices of branded laptops.”

i’m happy for you. i really am and i understand why you and other people here are so fond of neo. but my experience is different from yours. now can you understand why i’m so pissed? is it okay to have a different take on neo?

i am selling this neo laptop. but i don’t want to sell it without informing potential buyers of the caveats. (don’t do unto others, remember?) and no one wants to buy it. maybe you’d like to take it off my hands since you are such a neo fanatic.

oh wait i forgot. you have “tv and radio commercials running on nationwide media all produced entirely on my neo laptops” and you can now afford the high prices of branded laptops.

“yes your an idiot for thinking you’re not an idiot.” -gregory house

    @eric, eric santiago, neouser

here’s a concept you might not be able to grasp due to your stereotypical better-than-you-because-i-think-so attitudes:

if there are about 20 neo ranters in this forum and only 10 neo positive testimonies and hundreds get to read this forum, but neo sells hundreds of laptops every month, how accurate can your less-than-knowledgeable opinions be in representing the brands’ true qualities/standards (regardless of how it worked for you)?

Not too many rave about neo, im sure. and will surely not have the time to seek a forum such as this just to tell everybody how they’re “just fine” or “ok i guess” with their products.

I’m sure not all that you talk to who purchased neos will share your opinion. Ive recommended neo to my friends and theirs have been working “just fine” or “ok i guess” just like mine.

ryans right. the only fair way to address consumer/manufacturer rights and issues is through the proper channels such as the DTI.

Pagdito lang kayo ngawa ng ngawa at kayo lang ang nababasa ng mga tao, ano na iisipin nila? Parang natsimis ka na bading at hindi mo maipagtanggol ang sarili mo. (metaphor yun ha)

Im sorry that you got the short end of the stick but dont let it go too far up your ass not to see the downside of your actions.

Yes I can afford a branded laptop but why would I buy one? its just not practical on my end. Like buying a brand new car, i cant afford depreciation just for the peace of mind that my car wont break down the next five years. I’d rather buy a good used one and maintain it diligently and make sure it runs for the next 10 years. Id rather buy a cheap neo and make sure it works the way i intended it too (and pray i don’t get what guys got) than pay more just for the peace of mind that it won’t break down due to lack of know-how.

  132. marketing professionals call it word-of-mouth advertising (woma) and you of all people should know that because you’re part of the advertising industry.

to those of you who are not familiar with the term it simply means that consumers will tell other people about certain products or services based on their personal experience. for example if you and your friends went to a restaurant and had an absolutely marvelous time, i guarantee you the next day you will be telling your friends to try it even invite them to go back there again.

if you went to a restaurant where the waiters were rude and you saw cockroaches and houseflies in your food, what are you going to tell your friends the next day?

we’ve all been there. we’ve all done it.

for all of you happy satisfied neo users, of course i expect you to recommend the brand to your friends.

should i call your morons for doing so? no.

should i tell you to shove your opinions up your asses? no.

should i call you idiots? no. because i know you are speaking from your positive experience.

well, i had a very bad experience with my neo laptop and their “customer care” and “after sales service” (really? customer care? service?) so what do you expect me to tell people?

or let me put it this way. suppose i bought a laptop. the brand of the laptop is starbit. then i tell you:

“you know that starbit laptop i bought? it gave me such a headache. they issued me a defective unit and the assholes at their after sale service office made me feel like it was my fault. i told them that i need the laptop for my work or i won’t get paid but they didn’t seem to give a shit about my predicament.

but you know what? i highly recommend starbit laptops. forget mac and acer and all those big name brands. go with starbit laptop. never mind my bad experience just buy a starbit laptop. it is one of the best investments ever.”

does that make any sense at all?

“the only fair way to address consumer/manufacturer rights and issues is through the proper channels such as the dti”

i did call dti to complain and they passed my call from one person to another (and to think long distance yun). and finally the last person who took my call said ganyan naman po talaga. end of conversation. she didn’t tell me what do to do next. where to file a complaint. she just hang up. happy?

“i’d rather buy a cheap neo and make sure it works the way i intended it too (and pray i don’t get what guys got)”

well it’s too late for me. i should have prayed before i purchased my neo. and until you’ve walked in my shoes i don’t think you have any right to tell me to “dont let it go too far up your ass not to see the downside of your actions.” p27k maybe nothing to you. you probably wipe your ass with it. but it’s a hell of a lot of money to me. it’s a hell of a lot of money to the majority of filipinos.

and what does “not to see the downside of your actions” mean? that i bought a neo? that i believed the salesperson and neo’s marketing materials? that’s the downside of my action?

if you’re calling me stupid for doing so well yeah i agree with you. that was a stupid thing to do hence my personal crusade against neo.

they didn’t give a fuck about me (even though that’s their job and that’s what they get paid for) why should i give a fuck if that company closed down? you want me to turn the other cheek so they can slap it with my P27K?

but as you claim there are hundreds and thousands and perhaps millions of happy neo users and there are only 10 of us. does that mean we should shut? hell no. bring it on neo bitch!

  133. [...] discussions on Neo Laptops are getting heated lately. NEO’s are getting good, bad and really ugly [...]

  134. @johng:

“here’s a concept you might not be able to grasp due to your stereotypical better-than-you-because-i-think-so attitudes…”

Are you sure you’re not the one having the stereotypical better-than-you-because-i-think-so attitude? If your read my comments in this forum. I never claimed to have so bad an experience with Neo that I am campaigning against it on the worldwide web as if others with better experience are not entitled to their own opinions. Oh I know how to file a complain at DTI because we have already done that before with another company, Smartbro, which worked in our favor. But the thing is the one I shared in this forum is just about the battery of my laptop that went dead within 6 months which I don’t give a damn in the end because I seldom use the battery in it anyway. But the question is: Is it something normal for any brand of laptop for its battery to die in less than 6 months in spite all the care you gave to it? Talk to every tech and people who knows more about computer hardware and I’ll bet you that they will question it like the way I did. And don’t tell me I don’t know how to use and care for my laptop because computers and computer software are my bread and butter. I’m in the IT field and so I know the problem is the lies in the hardware (battery, which is made in China) and not some mishandling issue. I am not alone in that boat, so are you telling me our battery is as good as yours? I bought a Neo because it gave me decent specs for a cheaper price, and it is working fine except for the battery disaster and the poor tech support I got.

What I am trying to get across here is that everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. And just because someone is campaigning against this or that product that doesn’t mean that he or she is already a moron or someone with a colonial mentality. People are free to go for or against any product based on his or her own assessment. And now you’re saying that just because someone’s experience is directly opposite that of yours he is already an idiot for expressing his opinion?

Your counting on the so-called downside of Mr. Santiago’s “angry” comments, so I will ask you this. Do you exactly know what is the “true quality” of the Neo brand for you to say something like “your less-than-knowledgeable opinions” against it? You’re in advertising industry. Don’t you know that a customer’s experience with whatever product is ultimately the true test of a product’s viability or chance to surpass others in the same category? People make choices and its up to them to either listen to you or Mr. Santiago. Forums and blogs are created for people to post their views/opinions/rants whichever side they go - for or against anybody or anything. I would not question your experience or that of others getting a “flawless” experience with Neo because that’s yours to share. But the thing is we are here to share opinions and assessments of our experience and so let others who do not share your experience share theirs without being ridiculed by those who profess that they do not have “stereotypical better-than-you-because-i-think-so attitudes”. The topic here is about Philippine laptop and so let people talk about it, whether pro or against. Personally, I only informed my colleagues about my battery experience of a particular Neo model. Of course, I discourage them about it but it is still up to them to decide where to put their money’s worth in it. In our field, we are always ask by others who know less about computers about this or that specification, or this or that brand, or is this price or that price is reasonable enough. We always try to recommend the best based on the reviews, certifications and our own experiences. So what should I tell them? Should I say sweepingly that Neo is great because it is a Filipino company and I didn’t have any problem with it? Of course not! If you’re a competent professional, you will always point out what you think is the best based on your knowledge and EXPERIENCE about the product in question. One more thing, Neo Manufacturing is an ASSEMBLER of laptops with parts manufactured from other companies in other countries. As such, they have huge responsibility to make sure that their quality control in both acquisition of parts and assembly are tough enough to weed out those that are defectives. And if somehow some will end up the market, they should provide the service to remedy it. But who cares about this or that processes? What people want is the product in THEIR POSSESSION to WORK like they are supposed to, and if they by some chance they don’t then the companies producing it are OBLIGATED to give them the APPROPRIATE CUSTOMER SERVICE. If that doesn’t happen, customers that have grievances have all the right to complain or rant or whatever. Don’t give us the BS about colonial mentality or the so-called downside of other people’s negative comment about product because in the end its the PEOPLE WHO USE IT that tells the story….by all means share your own story. You’re entitled to it! We ALL have to exercise and enjoy our freedom of choice and expression after all….

Thats a full thirds of a day’s work lost whining in a forum! You should really do something to get back at neo like i dunno, going to a newspaper and air your complaint and lets see how neo reacts (i know i said this forum is not the right channel, probably dti would be the legal way). but whatever it is the more you bitch to people who cant do much for you (such as a guy named neouser) the more unproductive you get. only chicks flock in the restroom to powder, you’re not a chick are you? you really get nowhere. much like your crusade. nowhere.

“you know how much time i spent reading your last post? zero.same goes to neouser”

if you don’t take the time to read the other posts (the ones that disagree with your opinion) in this forum then what’s the point in joining in? this is a discussion you know. what exactly are you responding to?

“how much time did you spend writing back instead of just “respecting” my opinion?”

the reason why i wrote back (10 minutes btw) was to respond to your response to my response to ryan’s post (whew!) the one who said those of us who have a bad experience with neo products and are talking about it here were “morons”

so who is not showing any respect here?

“only chicks flock in the restroom to powder, you’re not a chick are you? ”

first you used the gay metaphor (wink! wink!)

then you used that quotation about being an idiot (wink! wink!)

now you’re using “chicks” in a derogatory manner.
that’s your idea of respecting others’ opinions?

we seem to get off the track here and that is my and others’ bad experience with neo products and the really bad experience with their after sales service.

stick to the issue, read what others have to say (even if they are contrary to your point of view) and stop the name calling (btw, i’ve been called worst names than moron, gay, idiot or chick, lol)

then you can make your demand for people to respect your opinion.

dont need your respect. but i’ll give you mine though. never called you names… read my posts again. except for the ‘house’ quote.

just saying that you’re better off finding workarounds on your neo problems and go on to being productive than bitching in a forum that doesn’t give you advice to solve your video cable problems nor battery problems. all you get here is sympathy probably some real advice here or there but more often than not just plain sympathy.

now you can cry all you want, people here will probably give you a shoulder you can cry on (neouser), or do something more.

less money spent = less quality bought = poor after sales service = Pilipinas ito. of course this is often inversely proportional to first world countries.

being realistic (not be mistaken as a cynic) there’s little this forum can do to change this. my contribution to this discussion though is my unsolicited-unwanted-and-unworthy-of-your-precious-time advice which is to deal with the neo situation and get on with your life.

“all you get here is sympathy probably some real advice here or there but more often than not just plain sympathy.”

guess what? “plain sympathy” is a lot more than what i got from neo, the company that sold me the factory defective laptop, in exchange for my non-defective P27K.

and i appreciate that “plain sympathy” very much. it may not mean much to you because you don’t know what i went through. but if you did you would know that “plain sympathy” goes a long, long way.

“less money spent = less quality bought = poor after sales service = Pilipinas ito.”

so therefore you are saying that neo products are inferior to imported products because they are cheaper? now i’m confused. isnt this the same thinking that ryan described as the thinking of “morons” (i didnt use that word, ryan did). i got to read ryan’s post again.

“my contribution to this discussion though is my unsolicited-unwanted-and-unworthy-of-your-precious-time advice which is to deal with the neo situation and get on with your life.”

you were the one who said “doesnt take a genius to predict what your response would be so i didnt bother reading your post anymore.”

well unlike you i actually read every word of your posts. because that’s how discussion boards work. i never said it was unwanted or unworthy. if your opinions were worthless to me would i bother to respond to your posts?

look we have different experiences with neo. so let’s agree to disagree.

go ahead and spread the gospel of neo. you won’t hear me use “gay metaphors”, “idiot” quotations or call you a “chick” for doing that. that is your right. i respect that.

and meanwhile i will continue with my little crusade.

maybe you’re right maybe i will accomplish nothing in the end. maybe i am just wasting my time here.

but what if you are wrong?

what if neo, after reading this forum, decides to overhaul its quality control system and rolled out more reliable products?

what if neo, after reading this forum, decides to re-train its after sales staff and technicians to be more responsive to its customers?

who stands to benefit from that?
    it’s neo, isnt it?

so if you look at the big picture, my anti-neo crusade is actually a pro-neo crusade in the long run!

really? another post for me? geez thanks. i didnt call you any names. and i apologize for the quotes and the metaphors, i assumed you weren’t that sensitive with those.

i really am hoping that i’m wrong. and that discussion boards such as this can well realize the what if’s you mentioned.

so all this bitchin’ n bickerin’ is because u want to help neo in the long run? (dude alang sarcasm ‘yan ha)

just a thought: has anybody here ever entered a used-car dealership? how did the ‘buy and sellers’ treat you? did they show enough enthusiasm towards you as a customer? were they ‘hard sell’ on the cars they were selling? did they offer some form of warranty?

im asking because the reason that i’m satisfied with my neo, is that when i bought my laptop i knew what i was getting. i knew that several forums such as this were going around and if i got a lemon, i knew that aftersales was gonna be a bitch because there’s none. much like buying a used car. you walk into the dealership, with everybody eying you down summing up if you could afford any of the vehicles they were selling, and when they think they can close you they pitch everything good about the car but at the back of their minds they know that theyre blabbing cowshit. you know this but you still buy though. what you usually do is spend more to fix the problem or try and cushion any loss by selling it to another person usually employing the same methods used to lure you in. thats how it is with cars and cheap laptops. thats just me.

now if we can have the same attitude with used cars as with neo laptops, we might not be stressing out too much on discussion boards.

i probably got lucky 3 times in a row with neo. but i saw some sony vaios on sale in harrison plaza this afternoon. they’re about the same price as a neo with the sightly higher specs but will probably perform better because of the synergy of the well researched components that sony put into it. might just get one, if i do i wont get my hopes up on the quality and service because im still acquiring it cheap.

“i didnt call you any names. and i apologize for the quotes and the metaphors, i assumed you weren’t that sensitive with those.”

i am not sensitive to those at all (let’s call them “clutter”) but i do know that when people add clutter to their opinions in forums such as this one most people respond to the clutter than to the opinion itself.

for example in another forum a guy posted “i think you’re wrong, you faggot.” from that point on, the discussion went down the toilet. but if he had said. “sorry, i think you’re wrong” the discussion could have continued and people would have maintained their focus on the topic.

at any rate there’s no need to apologize.

“so all this bitchin’ n bickerin’ is because u want to help neo in the long run?”

yeah i know it’s ironic. but i have emailed their customer service three times and voiced my complaint and they didn’t even acknowledge any of it. the dti was no help, either. maybe this would serve as a wake up call because i know some neo staff are monitoring this (at least early on).

okay, so maybe i was just unlucky when i got my unit and there’s nothing wrong with their quality on the average, but dude, believe me their after sales service really suck big time. like i said earlier, they could have at the very least showed some plain sympathy. neo really needs to re-train their staff.

neo is obviously after the market who can’t afford more expensive brands. for us even a p15k laptop qualifies as a major investment. but neo doesn’t seem to get that.

their attitude, at least to me, seems “you bought a cheap neo laptop what do you expect?” if neo employees feel that way about their own products then something must be really wrong.

“i’m satisfied with my neo, is that when i bought my laptop i knew what i was getting. i knew that several forums such as this were going around and if i got a lemon, i knew that aftersales was gonna be a bitch because there’s none.”

that’s where i went wrong. i didn’t do my research before i bought my neo. and yes i hit my head against the wall every time i think of that (excuse me i need to do it now).

honestly, i didn’t even know neo was a local brand initially. if i remember correctly the sales person said it was a taiwan brand. maybe i heard him wrong. but i was pretty sure he said a lot of good things about neo and i just didn’t have the knowledge base to sift the sales bullshit from the fact. lesson learned the very hard way.

“now if we can have the same attitude with used cars as with neo laptops, we might not be stressing out too much on discussion boards.”

i don’t know if buying used cars and buying brand new computers is a fair comparison. if i were buying a used computer well yeah i’d be very guarded and skeptical. i have never bought a used car (i make a pathetic p1k a day!) but i have bought a used cell phone. and i did ask a lot of questions and even checked its casing for the tiniest scratches even though i know they don’t really affect the cp’s performance.

but when i am buying a brand new cell phone i assume its working properly and i’m less vigilant and i limit the questions to its operations and of course the warranty. but that’s me. i’m really the gullible type i guess.

i pledge to be more viligant consumer whether i am buying a used or a brand new product. see, i learned something new here today!

used cars and neo laptops are similar but used cars are even worse. you spend hundreds of thousands for a good pre-owned vehicle without warranty nor some form of after sales. neo laptops come with warranties and bad customer service, but nonetheless customer service.

yes vigilance is key as well. if neo and other manufacturer’s find it much harder to sell by saying this product is all this and that, rather than being honest and telling you that their product is cheap and there’s a possibility that it might be a lemon then maybe they would change their sales attitude and let you make more informed decisions.

you should see me deal with manlalako of dvd’s in quezon ave. near mercury drug. i tell them flat out “sinungaling ka!” when i know their lying and tell them “sige bibilhin ko ito kahit alam ko niloloko mo lang ako” and forcing them to tell the truth “di naman maasahan yung mga sinasabi mo, daming beses ko na narinig yan”. i always end up getting good copies and not buying movies that are still in cinema status because the peddler becomes more honest. we often don’t tell the vrb that the bumbay at the corner sold you a defective judy ann-piolo pirated movie

what i’m saying is people can be honest or want to be honest, but times are hard and often they overlook virtues just to make a sale. same goes for neo, often substandard products are still released for sale regardless of quality control standards. you get pissed but please dont bring them down, because much like the muslim dvd peddler they bring access to otherwise pricey but original or branded versions. more good than harm. lesser evil bs.

surf the net, check the tech blogs, walk in the store, know more of what you are buying than the salesperson, do not trust the salesperson, test the product based on what you know, do not trust the salesperson. thats my tip.

  145. hmmm what a discussion, sorry guys i have to admit i stopped reading not even halfway thru masyadong tedious e.
let me just relate to the one i noted about the numbers of complaints compared to those that are satisfied. yes there are thousands of neo laptops sold compared to the numbers of whiners here. here, where i am, we number about 11 neo users in this division alone, my co-employees are not complaining, tho i am the only one posting here,i can say we are all satisfied with our neo’s. yung mga hangs, restarts, etc na sinasabi nyong defects meron din kami nyan nung umpisa pero mostly caused by how the lap tops are being used at sa programs na iniinstall, kahit anong brand can experience this kung mali ang gamit. kaya basing on the different complaints i read i suspect most of them are not really angry at the product itself but with the customer service. sa mga complaints halata mo na karamihan eh walang alam sa technical side ng computers particularly on the proper usage and maintenance. most of the complaints are not really telling the whole story, theyre holding in on the truth or something. hindi din porke kasi may warranty, sisirain ng ignorance sa paggamit ng computer tapos dadalhin sa customer service,of course when rejected, aangal. tamad lang kasi magbasa ng manual, sa complaints lang masipag.another thing i noted is why suspects those that are saying they are satisfied with the product to be part of the manufacturing company? or suspect that theres something in it for them? why? hindi ka ba tinuturuan nun bata ka to stand up for what you think is fair and right ng walang kapalit? if you suspect that all this is because neo is giving out something for this or this is part of neo talking, then logic will dictate that you whiners should be treated with the same suspicion as well that you are all from… what? ibm? toshiba? sony? hp? mga competition na naglalabas ng negatives at paninira because your sales are being affected? maybe thats that… gotcha!

“i read i suspect most of them are not really angry at the product itself but with the customer service.”

in my case yes it is about consumer service. like i said even though i got a FACTORY DEFECTIVE unit, if the customer service was better i wouldnt be this pissed off. if neos customer service was satisfactory, i would even recommend it to my friends despite the fact i got a factory defective unit, because i know neo takes good care of their customers. but they dont.

“tamad lang kasi magbasa ng manual, sa complaints lang masipag”

ah actually my neo laaptop didnt really have a manual (the thick kind) it only came with a one-page flyer with an illustration that identified the different parts of the unit.”

“another thing i noted is why suspects those that are saying they are satisfied with the product to be part of the manufacturing company? or suspect that theres something in it for them? why? hindi ka ba tinuturuan nun bata ka to stand up for what you think is fair and right ng walang kapalit?”

i suspect that because instead of addressing the issue they are ridiculing those of us who are complaining about our experience with neo. for example, ryan called us “morons”

    you yourself told me:

“go back to sleep and dont forget to take your medicine, stop playing with your fathers computer.”

i am attacking neo am) because they gave me such a headache. but why are you attacking me personally?

when you said “take my medicine” are you’re implying i take anti-pyschotic drugs?

when you said “stop playing with your fathers computer” are you’re implying that i am a juvenile who don’t know how to use a laptop (i’m actually in my 30s)

even if that’s not what you meant why make those comments in the first place?

why cant you just say “i disagree with you” or “the problem is you misused your computer” instead of saying “some of the stories here are somewhat funny and some are outight ridiculous and stupid.”

what do you gain by ridiculing us?

btw you made some assumptions too like:
“most of the complaints are not really telling the whole story, theyre holding in on the truth or something.”

i am not saying that every complainer here has been 100% honest.but how do you know that? do you have proof?

okay i will admit i did make that assumption that you may be working for neo simply because of your personal attacks and your attempts at discrediting us instead of sticking to the issue.

kasi di ba if you dont have any personal interest at stake why launch a personal attack?

i have been standing up for my right here as a disgruntled consumer in exchange for nothing (i wish acer, mac or sony is paying me to do this!) although i understand why you would think that. tama ka. it works both ways.

but i have proof na genuine disgruntled consumer ako (yung neo laptop ko)

but most of all i have been standing up for my right here and all this time i never made a personal attack on you or anyone else (nothing blatant anyway, lol)

respecting the opinion of others, even if you disagree with them, is the basis of democracy.

also if you stop reading every post here because you find it “too tedious” then you’re missing the point of joining a forum.

i remember a rep telling me that some neo parts are made in taiwan or the design or something. and when you download neo drivers some of the links point to a taiwanese site http://www.clevo.tw

so its not a totally pilipino product. nowadays ‘made in china’ is worse than ‘made in taiwan’. i wonder how ‘made in the philippines’ is considered locally. abroad i think it has higher value, here kaya locally ano common treatment?….just a thought (medyo off-discussion)

‘ngayon kung gusto mo lang na oo ng oo sa opinion mo, that’s not a discussion. that’s a monologue with an audience’. i agree with tibbar…

are you agreeing with the monologue line? because i said that to tibbar.

“i remember a rep telling me that some neo parts are made in taiwan”

when i was waiting for neo to fix my unit their standard excuse for the long wait was that “the spare part has not arrived from taiwan.” that’s why i thought neo was a taiwanese brand before i discovered this forum

nowadays ‘made in china’ is worse than ‘made in taiwan’

in the 60s products that were made in japan were considered inferior but not anymore. in the 80s and 90s products made in taiwan and korea have also gained some respect.

products made in china i beleive would also gain respect eventually but not as quickly as japanese, taiwanse and korean products because the country is still largely controlled by the government rather than private enterprise.

its really all about quality and innovation. there’s no getting around that.

“i wonder how ‘made in the philippines’ is considered locally. abroad i think it has higher value, here kaya locally ano common treatment?”

there’s a perfectly good explanation for that. dito kasi sa atin may double standard sa quality. yung “export quality” and yung “pwede na yan”.

pag for foreign market, mas maganda talaga quality ng philippine products. pag pang local market mas mababa. i guess kasi stricter ang standards abroad.

for example sa farm products, yung magagandang mangga at saging pang export sa japan, us, australia, etc. yung tira tira (yung di perfect ang “kutis”) for local consumption only because di tatangapin yun sa abroad (rejects kung baga based on their standards)

that’s the exact opposite being practiced by the japanese daw. lahat ng magaganda for the jap market. yung lower quality ang pang export (at least yun sabi ng prof ko dati na di ko malilimutan). i dont know about the taiwanese and koreans if they do it the japanese way.

anyway that’s one reason may “colonial mentality” ang mga pinoy consumers kasi we only get the non-export quality products. siguro kung from the start eh may access tayo sa export-quality phil products iba attitude natin ngayon.

then again di mo naman masisi mga manufacturers and producers kasi mas maganda presyo sa export market. so siempre yun priority nila.

i dont know if that is right or wrong. as a filipino consumer i think it’s wrong. but kung ako ang businessman siempre kung san malaki kita dun ako. after all business is business. it’s not “charity.”

the question is… is it possible for manufacturers to sell “export-quality” products at prices na abot kaya ng majority of the filipinos (the 80% that live below the poverty line).

no, i’m not teaching you what you should write.

i am just saying you don’t have to launch a personal attack to get your point across (especially if you don’t have anything personal to lose or gain). write whatever you want but why resort to personal attacks? sabi nga kung baga, opinion lang yan walang personalan.

what i am saying is that before you post anything here (or anywhere else) ask yourself this:

“would i use the same language and terms if i were posting this to my mother or grandmother?”

if your mother or grandmother were the ones ranting and raving here would you use the terms “morons” “stupid” etc?

and please don’t say that i am not your nanay or lola so you can talk thrash to me – because that would give me the license to diss your mom and granny. after all they are not my nanay or lola. would that be acceptable to you?

what i’m saying is that think of society as an exclusive club where you have to pay the daily membership fee which is respecting every body else regardless of their sex, age, gender-preference, nationality, political beliefs, job, opinion about neo, etc.

those who don’t want to pay the membership fee should do what osama did and live in some remote cave somewhere (btw i’m not dissing osama because he is a muslim, but because he is a terrorist).

“and the way you spend time dissecting my post, my oh my, thats weird.”

of course i spend time to dissect your posts (and all others). i read them and re-read them because i want to know what your thoughts and your opinions are. and i want to make sure i get them right before i respond. that is the purpose of a forum. what’s weird about that?

“dont you have anything important to do than hang around here waiting for new message?”

i have a “message alert” which tells me if there’s a new post on this forum (and all other forums) so your (and everyone else’s) posts are sent directly to my email.

as for the “anything important to do” well, i guess not (lol)

“are you that desperate to want to have the attention?”

    i guess so - particulalry neo’s attention.

  152. i bought a neo vivid v2121 last dec 2007,
    as for now…

    1) it works good (12 hours/ day of usage for a year)
    2) i bought it 45000php at octagon and they where very nice when it pertains to customer service..
    3) i never complain of any defect even the battery till now it last untill 2 hrs. i just visit octagon to check for some good updates and check up for my loptop and even i already spent my warranty they still entertain and check my latop for free..
    4) i never spent a bit peso for laptop repairs..(just bought some cleaning kit, cooling pad, and printer and mouse…hahaha..)
5)no problem till now… working the same from the day i bought it..

    advice upon buying and using

    1. buy neo on good stores like OCTAGON, GUILMORE not on mall stall w/o good reputation nya
    2. just clean it often( buy brush and cleaning kit)
    3. buy a cooling pad (everytime u used it, it will stay cool as you do)
    4. avoid droping adding pressure to your laptop
    5. check the store where you bought it every month or twice for check ups and updates
    7. defrag, virus scan, nad clean up your laptop twice a month
    6. and last, trust and love your laptop (as its your treasure)

its not all about the neo notbook itself buy how you can take good cAre of it and handle it.. perhaps good quality comes from good stores so dont dare to buy on stall that offer more cheaper price (but still the same laptop)..

i trust my laptop so much and it never let me down so far..

  153. i have a NEO vivid v2121, just got it february 2, 2009, i never heard of this stories so i thought of buying NEO after seeing a good specs plus less money. after 1 week of usage under normal circumstances, one key fell from the keyboard, letter U. Im so disappointed about it, im hoping that it will perform good because i have an uncle who owns a neo also..so to solve the problem i called tech support hotline at (02)633-3636 hoping someone can help me, i dialed 5 times waiting on the line for 5 mins dial and no one answered the phone, after 5 mins phone line will just drop automatically, so i dialed one more time, luckily someone answered at around 3 mins of waiting, i told them the problem, what they just said is that its a physical damage and i have to pay Pph 2110 for replacement, they quoted me that amount since its considered out of warranty..i am working in SONY VAIO tech support for almost 2 years so i know about physical damage, we even replace fallen keys on the keyboard for free..and i definitely know if i did a physical damage on my computer, the base of the keyboard where the key should be set doesnt seem to be broken, the key tile itself is not broken but was just detached from the keyboard..i know its a quality issue..but i dont want to fix it myself since im in warranty, it could be voided if i tamper something, hoping they can fix it i went to megamall neo in cyberzone yesterday feb 11, 2009, as i stepped inside, i witnessed the horror of other customers complaining, one is an executive complaining his unit was not fixed after 1 month of waiting and he is wanting to speak to neo president or someone higher, others also complain with the very slow process of tech support..but im still hoping that they can fix easily the problem since no damage from the keyboard, everything was intact, its just the tile of the keyboard is just detached, only one tile..i witnessed the unprofessionalism of the techs, they used inappropriate tools, and did the worst just to attach the keyboard, finally it was attached but the metal base was deformed and tile was attached but wont work because its broken now..tech decides that it should be for replacement and i have to wait for 7 working days just for them to check the keyboard if they will consider it as in warranty. how can it be considered in warranty if they already broke it while trying to fix it..they removed the whole keyboard and returned to me the unit, now im with a laptop with no keyboard, its my first laptop from my salary of my first job..im so disappointed with NEO..i will never buy NEO again.

There is a neo showroom branch in Cebu - in SM Northwing area. As for quality of neo laptops, I’ve seen worse - I have two neo laptops, one 12″ and the other one a Vivid 1100 netbook (and my uncle has one older laptop for about almost 4 years) and they have given me no problems whatsoever - except battery life (1+ hours for my 12″ laptop is not what you consider as mobile worthy) - I’ve had my neo vivid fall accidentally on the floor from 3 feet and it was still working! I’ve had more experiences of bad quality from Blue (I have one Blue netbook, and I’ve had it serviced TWICE already, and my friend has had his Blue laptop serviced due to keyboard problems a number of times). If you want to buy a good neo laptop make sure you buy it from a reputable computer shop (that’s what I do).

I do feel sorry for Neo for all the negative comments but there is nothing wrong about it since everybody should have the right to express their sentiments or opinions.
Even high end brands will still suffer some malfunctions much especially if being used daily. I bought a Neo laptop last Dec 2006 worth Php24,999.00 from PC Corner and until this time, I never encountered any hardware related problems. Even though oftentimes, I used it for more than 8 hours in a non-aircondition room, still it is functioning perfectly. At best, it is a must to use a laptop cooler especially if used for extended times.
    Godbless to all!

i have a neo laptop bought in sm marikina, just this december 2008. cool specs, cheap price.

performance is great, really happy with it.

there are only 2 downsides that am experiencing, which i hope people can give me advice on:
    1) short battery life…i think it only lasts 1 hour (unlike my lenovo t-60, which can go on for 3 hours or so).

    2) when it heats up, it really HEATS UP. i had to buy a coolong deck in Octagon megamall. it kinda hurts my palm when i use the tablet.

Should i go to their service center already for these? am more worried about #2 as am afraid it might affect performance or other circuitry of the laptop.

  162. I AGREE!!! BAD EXPERIENCE WITH NEO HERE, after 3 months battery got around 15mins lifespan so plugging to the power outlet is needed, its like a laptop that turned desktop after 3 months. Went to service center to purchase battery, they said NEO is not producing batteries of the model anymore. What I did I threw the Laptop and purchased HP.

after a month I got myself another ASUS, HP was fine, ASUS’ monitor/hinge broke, went to service center they say i have to wait till stocks for the desired part arrives, waited for almost a month, replaced. for 1 year my hinge broke like 5 times. NEVER BUYING ASUS AGAIN!!!!!

my old HP is still working, threw my ASUS to the garbage and bought another HP both HP’s working fine :) never got to call tech support or service center.

kasi parang natatakot na akong bumili ng neo sa mga sinabi nyo! pero I have a friend.. he as a neo and bought it for about 19k.. and he is using this NEO for 2 years.. it’s working well. ACcording to him… just take good care of it… I like the positive comment..hahaha
maexperience ko rin yan mga naexperience nyo…
kasi bibili ako this coming saturday..
    good luck sa akin

i believe your problem is the same as my problem - the factory defective lcd cable.

if it’s still under warranty (and the warranty is still valid) wala ka babayaran.

yun lang maghihintay ka ng at least 9 working days (that means di bilang ang saturdays, sundays and holidays).

my advice: magbaon ka ng maraming pacencia (not the biscuit!) at antacid para di ka masyado sikmurain sa bad customer service nila.

but to be fair to them my bad experience with the megamall neo people happened last year pa. who knows baka mas matino na sila ngayon.

    good luck na lang.

  167. I just want to share my experience with neo..

actually pwede mo sya gamitin until 5 - 7 hours straigt.. na hindi umuiinit ang unit… bili kayo ng cooling pad nyo para hindi sya iinit… wala kame aircon sa house. pero ok sya.. yung NEO B2186n ang gamit ko.. 2 gb.. mabilis sya at maganda rin nman ang sya.. observe ko pa sya for another week.. if it will do.. ang problem lang 1 hour lang yug battery.. need lageng icharge .. un ang problema nun..hehehe…

  168. Im back! why? before i post my message here kasi i used defective neo laptop, for a days, pero pinapalit ko ng ibng brand yung ASUS. so far wala me naging problem. Ngayon im back kasi im using now NEO laptop Free by PLDT, Wow grabe for the second time i used it may defect pa din, pero hindi na battery ha, yung DVD writer nya.

  176. i bought my neo vivid just more than a month ago..first problem i had was the adapter..had to send it to NEO service center in manila..after a week and a half.it was returned already with my new adapter…however..right now the problem is the laptop is giving out weird sounds like crackling sounds from the speakers..longer time to boot…and this blue screen for the first time popped out of nowhere…saying there’s a system error or sumthin…NOW WHAT? I’m in denial right now..we’re talkin bout hard earned money…i’m very very disappointed…

  177. I bought a second hand neo laptop last december… The owner of this bought the laptop by may 2006. Until now it really works well but the only problem is the battery also..it heats so fast…I bought this for only 8K..but the RAM memory is only 256 that why the price is so cheaper..You need to be careful also with your laptop…The screen of my laptop still have plastic..hehe..

  179. Thank you for your comments, I was planning to buy a neo laptop myself. No questions asked pag nasira yung laptop mo basta within warranty tatanggapin nila and aayusin nila.

  180. why are you guys fighting over this kind of thing?
you guys never trust our own products. this is the kind of thinking that slows down the development of the country. all of you think that foreign brands are better but have you ever thought maybe if we patronize our own products, then they would strive harder to provide us with better ones. you guys shouldn’t be called Filipinos. do you not know the effort of the government to develop ICT in the country so that we could achieve national development?

of course you wouldn’t know that!!! you’re just concerned about your shits!!!!

how can the Philippines develop if you continue to break its wings?

it’s not wrong to complain about the product but you shouldn’t broadcast it and whine about it over the internet you know!!!! i’m sure they are trying to do something about it.

and you shit number 2! MAC is good.. i know that! but don’t ever look down on NEO. everything has its differences. and NEO is just starting… it’s still an infant compared to MAC. MAC used to be like this, too!!!! you guys should study more before you open your mouths!!!!

i can’t stand people like you!!!

  181. is there somebody here that encounters same as my problem, where i cant turn my laptop on , B2176 model unless i plug it in the charger/adapter? after that you can just disconnect the adapter because it already started to boot normal, it acts like it starts the computer, and battery is not sufficient anymore to start it? and i notice its fully charged on the last session, but when you shut down, and turn it on, you cant turn it on, and you plug in the adapter and the cycle continues? but when its running already its fine, almost perfect, nightmare only when you shut it down, and turn it on, hassle talaga kasi kailangan bitbit mo talaga ang charger, para mag start!, hay naku, how did you fix urs people? im still waiting for NEOs reply to my problem here..

  190. sa paglinis ng mga power contacts yung copper or bronze na contacts just use gum eraser, kahit yung sa pencil or better yung tulad sa rotring or staedler pro basta eraser. i erase mo lang don sa contacts, naiipunan kasi ng grimes, o libag yung contacts especially may heat and moisture lalo pa kung sa aircon na room mo ginagamit yung laptop tapos lalabas ka sa mainit na lugar. ganyan din maintenance ko sa desktop lalo na sa memory cards. fyi sana makatulong.
