HP Pavilion TX 2000z

From Laya Florendo:

hiya! i’m desperate to buy a laptop that’s going to be my tekkie best friend for quite a good number of years. i’m a graphic artist so i need a creature that can run photoshop and aftereffects. i plan to boost storage by saving to an external drive and i will be uploading files to a desktop if heavier graphics or editing is needed. i work and travel a lot with a new baby and my husband, hence the need for mobility. i need help! my brother is in dubai and he said there’s a sale where he’s at. i was thinking of an HP Pavilion tx2000z or anything in their series…or maybe an asus. but i just don’t know what’s going to be best for my needs. HELP! thanks!

Cnet says that the the HP Pavillion tx2000 is a tablet that’s well designed yet heavier than its counterparts:

The bottom line: HP’s Pavilion tx2000 combines a convertible tablet design with an entertainment-focused laptop to create an interesting hybrid, thanks to an improved tablet screen and mini remote control.

Specs: Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology (2.1 GHz); RAM installed: 2 GB DDR II SDRAM; Weight: 4.4 lbs

My opinion? 4.4 lbs is light enough. Are you sure you prefer a tablet, though? I’ve no experience with tablets and I’m concerned about the durability of those swiveling screens. With a baby and all, you might need a tough notebook. Otherwise, if it’s on sale, go for it!

Oh, by the way, check out the local tech support for that in case it fails. How are you gonna have if fixed? Most laptops here now come with a one year warranty. Getting a local laptop with the warranty might be wiser.

Neo Laptop Or Packard Bell?

Neo Laptops — Ely on February 26, 2008 at 8:20 am

From A site visitor:

I’m deciding to buy a laptop; and i’m choosing between neo and packard bell as a brand. i think packard bell would be a better choice because it is know for its great functionality in the europe, am i right? please respond. thanks!

I quickly looked at Packard Bell and found this post from wikipedia:

In August 2007 Chinese PC manufacturer Lenovo confirmed its interest in acquiring Packard Bell in a move to expand its market into Europe.

In August 2007 Acer/Gateway was rumored to be looking to buy Packard Bell. The rumor was confirmed in January 2008 when Acer announced that it had acquired a controlling interest of 75% in the parent company of Packard Bell.

With all the negative feedback on Neo Laptops, Packard Bell seem to be a better alternative. I looked at some laptop reviews of Packard Bell, however, and found them unfavorable as well.

You may have to wait for the newer releases of Packard Bell (perhaps with the Acer brand) if you want to get this laptop.
